Attacks in Paris

One interesting piece regarding religion is that there are over 100 English versions of the Bible. There are many reasons for this but the most telling is that those particular door step bible pushers have different versions than the official King James version that is used in the C of E. These differences in text, if the public knew of them, should be enough for people to ask questions of those differences. If the text suits that church but not another, then the simple rule of an argument that both sides of a contradiction must mean that at least one side, and maybe both, must be wrong. Incidentally, the King James version as mentioned claims that the King was the King of Great Britain, France and Ireland. King James was never the King of France so that lie which appeared on the first page of that book should have been enough reason to question what other passages were also falsified.

As each year passes in this country the Christian faith is becoming less relevant, it is getting watered down if that is the right phrase and isn't of much bother to anyone, if this is going to happen with Islam it ain't happening in my or my kids lifetime

That's the top and bottom of it. The religion is several hundred years behind the Christian faith.

That concerns me a little - are you saying that criticising religion is off limits?

I wouldn't say so. But there's no criticism here, just an attempt to blame the whole for the actions of the few and another to make out that Islam is unique as the only religion that can be interpreted by a random few nutjobs violently and therefore needs it's core ideals eradicated. All the while blissfully ignoring the atrocities committed by followers of all religions in the name of those religions all over the world, unless they're Islamic.

Then there's this idea that Islam needs a reformation. It's been going through one since the 1940s and the fundamentalist groups are one side of the schism, just as the inquisition was one side of Christianity and the Puritans and Baptists the sharper end of the stick when Protestantism went through something similar.

Two examples. This islam against the world shit has been going on in a serious sense how long? And im given two examples. That said its ridiculous to expect you to give fucking hundreds but lets be honest if i were to drive from my home in leeds to the centre of the neighboring town Bradford. I would pass over a dozen mosques. Are they ALL doing enough. You cant prove they are anymore than i can theyre not. Im merely hoping last fridays events perhaps focuses the need a bit more. NO to terrorism in any form from any denomination.

Open the first link and there must over 20 examples, not two.

Could you perhaps give me an example of a legitimate criticism of Islam?

Could you perhaps give me an example of a legitimate criticism of Islam?

We could talk about their statement of faith and how it lacks any empirical evidence, or we could talk about the historic lack of separation of church and state in Islam. We could talk about the status of Women in the Qur'an. The same kind of issues we'd criticise Christianity for, issues that affect the wider religion. Not take the actions of a few nutcases that the majority of the faith vehemently disagree with and use them as an excuse to attack 20% of the world's population spanning every ethnic group and continent. If you want to criticise the religion itself, you should pick issues that are relevant to the entire religion. Otherwise we're straight back to the futility of blaming every Christian on earth for the fallacies of the Westboro Baptist Church.
