Yeah but I'm sure Dean Ashton would have been more suited to the Premier league than little Lionel...Certainly beats Dean Ashton.
Best. Player. On. The . Planet. He might be after a new contract but it doesn't mean he will get it. The big question for the Barcelona hierarchy is probably what they could do with £120M or so. I'm sure they could sell him to us and fix all the holes in their entire squad with that money. At his age and with Iniesta and a few others not getting younger a transfer does actually make a little bit of sense.
My argument is do we need him because he doesn't exactly play brilliantly alongside Sergio for Argentina. We also are showing in recent performances that we are probably going to need replacements for both sides of our defence and also a big replacement for Yaya next year. Spending £120M on one player is a bit of a risk to be honest no matter how good he is. With FFP likely to fall apart with Platini's antics then we might stand a chance then but if we still have to fall under FFP rules it is a big risk.

Sorry don't get any of your logic, besides it's not our money that's getting spent, if we could get Messi then it would be the biggest statement ever that we mean business, and he would improve our squad somewhat. He might be after a new contract but it doesn't mean he will get it. FFP won't go away with Platini but in the 2017 financial year, we're potentially looking at reporting profits of £70m. And I suspect the talk of £800k a week is somewhat fanciful as, even if it's anywhere near accurate, it will include his commercial earnings, some or all of which will come with him. It's the same for Rooney with his reported £300k per week; a large part of that (around 40%) is from commercial deals he's involved in on the rags' behalf.Spending £120M on one player is a bit of a risk to be honest no matter how good he is. More chance of Lionel Richie spearheading our strike force next season.
Come the revolution...Duchess of Cambridge for tea lady, anyone?
Why do you feel the need to compare it to Sterling?£800k a week for Messi looks a bargain compared to £50m for Sterling,
