Little Trip Down Memory Lane

Yes but you seem to indicate that the situation isn't that bad. personally I think we have better players than we had then yet we are in a worse state.

I always felt this season we would win the league closely followed by arsenal. For the first time this season I actually think we will not win the league as I think we will have to many other performances like the one today. Hope I'm wrong

Depends what you mean by "that bad", bud. Am I disappointed by our form over the past 2 months? Hell yes. Do i think the season is a write-off and the manager should be sent to the gallows? Well if you read much of today's posts, you would conclude "yes and then some". Which seems more than a little silly when we are 1 point behind the team considered to be our biggest contender and they have just lost 2 of their most important players to injury.

We had a few injuries in 2013/14, but never 7, 8 or 9 players at once which has been the case since the early Oct international break. And it's not just the injuries per se. It means the players who are fit are forced to play 3 times in a week. And players are under pressure to return from injury and play at full throttle from the get-go. It's no coincidence that our results immediately after Aguero and Silva were laid low were pretty good. Because the other players were still fresh and we had the momentum going. But eventually, missing your best players has to take a toll. Doesnt matter how much money has been spent. Take Messi, Neymar and Suarez our of Barca for any length of time and do you think they would be sweeping all before them?

I don't remember seeing us so totally outclassed in the premier league that season as we have been against Stoke, Liverpool and Spurs. I remember some poor results like Cardiff etc but can't remember us looking so poor creatively as well as defensively that year.

All will be forgotten and forgiven though if we win a trophy or 2 (or at least come close). I really hope Pellegrini can turn it round again though as we aren't going to making a managerial change before the end of the season anyway.

That's the thing. I used to rip my United cousin by saying well at least when we lose we don't lose by more than 1. I just can't see us winning the league but then I look at the table... Mental season

let's be honest we haven't had more than 33 points from 15 apart from 2011/12, and we made up for that by giving silly losses away in the 2nd half of the season.

He has to go on a run now though, or we will be in trouble, because at some point someone will click and they might just get too far ahead if we keep struggling for us to catch up.

80 points could win this title.

You could change things about a bit though and give the odd youth player a game here and there to freshen things up. You could also adapt the tactics to the players available to make life a bit easier for them.

We're never going to be as good without Kompany, Aguero, Toure and Silva as we are with them but we don't have to make things even more difficult for ourselves.

The only game where I seriously disagreed with his selection was the Liverpool game. Today, there wasn't a huge amount of choice. Yes he could have started Delph over Fernando, but do you then start Delph on Wed for the third time in a week?

the fact that we are so reliant on Vinny is the problem

all that money and time and we haven't provided adequate back up

he's great but we should have better cover available by now when he is not

He could have gone with Iheanacho over Bony, Navas wide and KDB or Sterling up front and played more of a counter attacking game.

The main thing is to go with tactics that bring out the best in the selected players. Playing a high defensive line with the back 4 we had today and Fernando was asking for trouble and made them look worse than they really are.

You can't just use the same system regardless of who is in the starting 11 and regardless of who we are playing.

Newsflash that may have escaped you. You don't get to win the league by just showing up. Every year the standard gets tougher. Look at Chelsea. Shows how difficult it is to stay even in the top 3, let alone be champions every year.

well said.

You know what, we've all been there when it was shit, it doesn't make it any easier at all losing today. Losing is losing and i don't care what league we're in, its shit. I think we are a top team and i've no doubt drunk far too much, but fuck it. I love this club even when they make me wanna jump of a bridge. We can still win the league, we can still win it all and its just the city way to go and fucking do it.

Well he tried the first two in the second half. And neither made much of a difference. And sorry to say, Iheanacho looked no better than Bony. Also, not sure how we can play a counter-attacking game when we are 2 down. Stoke weren't exactly coming at us in the 2nd half.

I meant from the start.

Possibly. But upfront was not the reason we lost yesterday. It was shambolic defending by pretty much all the back 4, ably assisted by Fernando missing key tackles on both goals.

Agreed but playing a high line with the players we had available yesterday exposed them. If we had defended deeper and played on the break, it would have made it much harder for Stoke to cut through our defence.

all is not lost far from it ,but you cannot blame people for being pissed off with what we witnessed yesterday ,

One thing I will predict is that Liverpool's form will tail off. Teams will study and learn to combat Klopp's style. Increasingly, you will see them let Liverpool have the ball and play like an away team.
Good start.

He'll be up against it if he plays on Wednesday !!

These threads just mask Pellegrini's shortcomings.

Can anyone see us winning at Arsenal for example or Leicester the way we are playing?

It will be dejavu unless Kompany is fit.

Your first line contradicts your third. Unless you have somehow find a way to blame Pellegrini for Kompany's lack of fitness.
