Captaincy and personality

People tend to focus on the impact of Kompany's absence on the defence - which is considerable - but what about the impact on the on-field leadership through force of personality? He's inspirational and leads by example, but has always been quite vocal on the field as well. When he plays well Yaya certainly leads by example, but he's not a particularly extrovert personality.

I know people will say players at this level should need no motivating, the manager should be doing this, yada yada, but I think it really has an impact on the team.

In terms of personalities, of the remaining players only Hart, Kolarov and Zaba (injured) really have the kind of expressive personality that takes other people with them, and I think it shows in the team.

Who should be leading us on the field when Kompany's out? And does it make a difference?

I think Hart should have it, been here the longest. Shows more passion in his head and shoulders adverts than Yaya has ever.

Its abit ironic really, the club worked hard to get these difficult personalities out of the club, Tevez, Mancini etc. and there the type of players/personnel we're missing.

Yaya is not a captain or leader of men in my opinion. He can be individually brilliant but his behaviour and personality both on and off the pitch are not what I would want to see in a great captain. joe is the best we have when Vinnie is not playing and I would give captaincy to him.

Knowing how yaya played and joe didn't play, who should have been captain last night?

We have no leaders apart from Vinny and that is down to recruitment of players. I bet Patrick Roberts would be more vocal than most of the first team.

You must be joking? I'm sure David shows great leadership qualities when he allows every CB and CM to run past him with the ball because he can't be arsed putting a tackle in.
Sean, you are getting a little predictable. At the moment half of our team fail to press effectively and close down space as they should. I would never argue that David is world class when we don't have the ball. He is when we do. However, he is no worse defensively than KDB, Sergio and Yaya. In my opinion he also represents the club better than Yaya, hence my answer. I think that if Pep rocks up, our defensive organisation as a team will be first on his list of priorities.

Anybody but yaya ....... in the mood he was in last night might as well of stayed in bed .

Gutted for all the biues that made the trip .

what annoyed me last night was when one of many failed attempts by yaya to do a fancy flick to someone never came off, no one bollocked him to say stop doing that shit, it never hardly works, he should have been ripped by his team mates big time

Captains -
1 Vinnie
2 Hart
3 Zabba
4 Kolarov

And in the rare occasion that none of these are playing, either Sagna or Fernadinho

I'd give Otamendi a run out with the armband and see how he takes that captain role. Maybe he'll become a bit more vocal with his play.

This. Everyone but Pellegrini knows this - Manuel seems to always do his best to appease Yaya. When Zabba is fit though, after Kompany I don't believe there is a better suitor.

Joe Hart should be our permanent captain now that Konpany's fitness is unreliable. Never mind vice captain.
