The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance (MIHP) officially opened its doors to unveil a pioneering new facility, the first of its kind in the UK, which will revolutionise health and sports performance in Greater Manchester.
The facility, situated on the Etihad Campus in the heart of East Manchester, is a purpose-built facility designed to create a world-class environment for diagnosis, education and research in health and performance for a range of sports including: football, swimming, taekwondo, squash and cycling.

The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance is the result of six years of planning and research completed by Manchester City Council, Sport England and the City Football Group. The Institute is part of the City Football Group’s long-term vision to not only be at the forefront of health and performance development, but to also support the regeneration of the East Manchester community.

The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance will provide services and programmes to a variety of elite athletes based in Manchester, including the players at Manchester City FC who are based at the Club’s elite training and youth development facility, the City Football Academy. The facility will also offer programmes to enhance amateur and grassroots sports in the region, as well as contributing to the improvement of public health within the local community.

Brian Marwood, Managing Director of City Football Services, who helped announce the official opening of the facility along with City Football Group Director, Martin Edelman, said:

“It has been a long-standing objective of City Football Group to develop our research into health and performance and this new resource will allow us to make this a reality. We are excited at the prospect of working with other elite sports to share best practice and increase our knowledge base, both within our teams in Manchester and across the Group. The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance is the latest addition to the Etihad Campus that not only provides a world-class medical facility on our doorstep, but echoes our commitment to enhancing the local community.”

Absolutely fantastic what is happening at our football club.

No need to rely on outside organisations when signing players now all Medicaid can be done in house Wonder if the rags will use it?
Interesting to see Martin Edelman involved as well

Is it any wonder Guardiola was attracted to joining City? Honestly I can't imagine there's another club in the world that has better facilities than these?

Utterly fantastic: a whole range of sports, not just football, will be catered for. Ideal for the GB cycling team/Sky Team based around the corner. Brailsford and Guardiola' working virtually next door to each other.

8 years since the greatest owners in world football took over our club..strap yourselves in blues we're just getting started!!

Good news, might be the rebirth of the Milan Lab knowing our owners, they hardly do things by half

Think the timber and steel fence around it sealed the deal for Pep. Knew my skills would pay off at some point ;-)

Looks like a great facility, hopefully puts us at the forefront of sports medicine. Logo looks wank though

6 years in the planning.....

Read it and weep all lurking rags, scouse, chave and gooners.

Not getting bored at all he is?
