Heard something interesting...

Guardiola has played the exact same type of football since he became Barca B manager.

If people think Pellers is a zealot who won't change style, they'll be rioting in the stands when Pep comes.

This simply isn't true, against Dortmund this season the coach said they played how you expect them to play but then when Dortmund found a way to get close to them they switched to playing a long ball over the top in behind the defence and they couldn't handle it. Against Arsenal in the champions league when a left back got injured and then got replaced he specifically targeted said player because he wasn't warmed up and up to the pace of the game which resulted in a goal. Pep plays the same style but tactically he is completely different depending on the players he is facing from game to game.

it has been patently obvious for a long while pellers has no regard for what the oppos bring only what we can do, even barca and bayern we played as if we only mattered and of course paid the price, occasionally we got away with it, like the sergio hat trick to get us out of a hole v bayern, but looking back that was more luck than judgement,
i for one will be glad for inventive structure that pep will bring

He's pretty much confirmed this himself before in this video 2:35 in:

90-95% focussing on own game and minimising mistakes (LOL) and the rest looking at the opposition.

Can't wait for Pep.

I heard this rumour three years ago. Pellegrini signs a 3 year contract with city......guardiola signs a 3 year contract with bayern.
Pellegrini promotes youth (gradually) instead of spending 100m+.....and guardiola comes in reaping the benefits.
Basically pellegrini has been laying the foundations regarding youth and everything else connected with our club for pep to take over.
Was a done deal In 2012 IMO .
Who's to say we don't extend peps contract til he's an old man? Wouldn't surprise me.

I read somewhere that Guardiola painstakingly looks into the opposition, and that dictates his game plan.

I suppose we'll all find out next season.

He does. It's covered in the much touted Pep Confidential, which I started reading yesterday. There's a decent feature on Pep in Four Four Two this month but, like a lot of what, I have seen written about him recently, the basis seems to be nicked from Pep Confidential.

If you watched that video before he arrived, which plenty of us did, you haven't ended up surprised by much of what goes on. I prefer Pep's approach.

Didn't watch the video but did watch Malaga for the first time under Pellers against Barca (sans Messi) to get an idea of the guy. Malaga were 3-0 down after 15 minutes or so. Barca just strolled through. So no not that surprised.

Yes he has. In fact, Pep himself is the person who said it and also in the same interview said that he has absolutely refused and will always absolutely refuse to play a different style of football.
There may be something to be said for not changing his style, but altering his tactics depending on the strength of the opposition.

No different from Pellers, he changes formation when needed but style is always the same.

Don't understand what you mean by that. Yes he changes formation (I saw one article posted on here which suggested 9 formations last season at Bayern). So those changes of formation do change the way they play. What do you mean by his style? Attacking?

I think there is a difference between style and systems though.
Peps teams always play the same way and usually in a familar formation, but he changes personnel within that system constantly and actually swaps players postions during games too. Against Barca last season he went in with a back 3 and changed it after 20 minutes.

Your correct in the fact he'll always play a certain way, but unlike Pellers he finds various ways of going about it.

I'd agree he plays in a way he's developed and that he's totally comfortable with. But he's also looking for ways to exploit the opposition weaknesses and/or negate their strengths and will fine-tune his tactical approach in-game. Strategically, he has a clear objective, which he will not change but he will change tactics as required.

No, his football has changed a lot compared to when he first arrived at Barcelona, it's very different.

What pep sticks to is a set of core principles about football and how it should be played, but there are very many different ways to do that and you only have to watch a game of Barcelona in 2008 and then a Bayern game this season to see that .

At Bayern this season he has been more than happy to have Boateng launching long balls over the top to the forwards. Which is something he would never have allowed at Barcelona.

His principles haven't changed, but the style of football has, and he has been prepared to do that based on opposition as well.

The rumour was half right. We've got pep after 3 years, but weve spent millions with hardly no youngsters making an appearance for the first team.

I don't believe the hype.... the young guns need to be in the first team... we always shoot ourselves in the foot oh maybe if i had done this the talent is there use it. Some of those guys would run rings around other players might not last the full match but i guarantee they would give it their all and fight for what they love and that is CITY otherwise they would be across the town covered in horse poo or would that be MANURE!

So maybe a Golden Generation of youth players are coming up under Pep???? You all have been thinking about it! I know.... so basically.
