Paul Wilson (Guardian) on that penalty decision

years ago i liked to read the odd newspaper, you sometimes found news or facts.

Now i dont bother at all, you just get the opinion of some absolute twat..

It'sa long time ago now, but in The Observer, back in November 2000 after a Manchester derby, Wilson produced what's still the most despicably one-eyed and mendacious match report I've ever seen. Ever since, whenever I've had the misfortune to come across any of his mind-numbingly mediocre output, I've noticed a tendency to have little (as well as some not-so-little) digs at us. I'm not one generally to wish ill on those I don't know, but I await the day when I hear that he's been caught in a wave of redundancies. One lives in hope.

That article is the exact reason why refs like Clattenburg give that type of decision against us. Its defended, brushed under the carpet and excused because its us.

Had it been the rags or Liverpool etc, he would have written a piece about the injustice of it all and how Clattenburg should be sanctioned.

Clattenburg and every other ref knows it too and thats why it would never in a million years been a penalty at the rags or liverpool etc.

The whole game stinks as does the narrative currently surrounding it.

You're too kind Peter - personally I hope his next shit is a hedgehog ;)

I'm glad you brought that article up though as it's the exact same thing that came to mind as soon as I saw this thread. It wasn't just that it was a totally biased match report - he also conducted a character assassination of our entire support base due to some fans chanting about Munich. Now I don't have an issue with him bringing this up but in the interests of balance, he should've also pointed out that sections of United's support were singing the "City's going down like a Russian submarine" song at that game. Anyway, I seem to remember Wilson being on local radio the following Saturday prior to our next home game (I think it was against Leicester) and being asked to explain why he'd written such a biased article. I've rarely heard anyone sound so smug - he called the match a 1-0 hammering I think - but he did start to squirm when a caller accused him of unfairly tainting our fanbase while United's got a free pass.

And that, in a nutshell, is exactly right!
Same with MoTD - yeah they showed the decision and all agreed it should never have been given... that was it, neatly brushed aside. You just know that if it had be the Rags, Dippers or the Arse there would have been calls for Clattenburg to be publicly flogged!

I glanced at The Sun a guy in the next seat on a plane to me was reading yesterday and noted Mark Halsey thought it was a penalty. Even if this had been given for us or against United there is no way on earth I could defend such a ridiculous decsion.

I think Clattenburg decision to give the pen has over shadow a lot of the shit that happen in this match like aguero being given offside all the time when clear on side and danny rose cheating what a clown and could have started a riot we don't like to see trouble in the stand but danny rose we will remember that and what you did and cheating is the worst thing you can do in a football match players and fans will never forget

You're both spot on. Downloaded the Guardian Football Weekly podcast yesterday cos I wanted to hear their take on the penalty. They broadly accepted that it was a bit "harsh" but then one of the bitter bastards said that because City equalised it should just be "brushed into the long grass" as it didn't impact the result. WHAT?!!!!

Roughly translates as we all hate City so fuck em!

I appreciate the line the club has took re the press post takeover and wanting to get them on board but it simply hasnt worked and i see nothing to suggest its ever going to either.

We need to fuck these cunts off from games and press conferences

I remember him writing something along the lines that the game could have finished 5-0 to United, an assessment that took account of every half-decent chance of theirs but none of ours. It was actually a pretty scrappy game that was fairly even in terms of chances. If he'd said that the little controlled football there was came from them, and that had City cpome back into it, you felt United might have gone up a gear, I'd have had no problem. We said thiose things in the pub post-match.

People can see games differently, I suppose. But as you say, what he wrote about the respective sets of fans showed he had an agenda. IIRC, he also slammed our crowd for pelting Beckham with coins but said nothing about incidents when their fans were throwing stuff into the sections filled with home supporters. I've still never been as angry about anything else I've seen written about City.

I don't trust anything that Ferguson is involved in, the guy can't lie straight in bed. I just find it staggering, blue tinted specs aside, that anyone could justify it. We've had many debates on MOTD about what a handball is and this in no way can be a handball. The decision was corrupt. There is no other explanation. Anyone who thinks it was an innocent mistake, or agree it was an offence, is quite simply naive at best.

His Twitter profile pic should tell you all you need to know. Lycra wearing bike fanny.

What did he do?

cheating rose
when a spurs player was down he had the ball in his own half then stuck a hand out to say am kicking the ball out only to fake the kick out and started to run down the line then kick it out about 20 yards in our half the city players went mad and zabba had to be held back by Kompany and city never give them the ball back and rightly so
