Tackling the issue!? Are we getting a raw deal from the referees?

this is what it says on the Premier League website regarding responsibilities of PGMOL and Select Group referees of which Clattenberg is one;

How is being a Select Group referee different?

  • Premier League matches are officiated by Select Group referees and assistant referees.
  • They meet for a ‘training camp’ twice a month, where they perform physical and technical training sessions, and analyse match videos.
  • There is a robust system for measuring Select Group performance over the season. Each Premier League match is evaluated by a former senior referee who scrutinises every decision using the match footage and ProZone to measure the officials’ technical performance. Former players and managers (Match Delegates) assess the accuracy and consistency of decision making and their management of the game.
third bullet in particular is of interest. you wonder what level of independent scrutiny/diligence there is in that process. its key as it is the best defence about any real/accused level of corruption. If that level of scrutiny is in place, and it does its job, who in their right mind would appoint the same team to officiate the game on Sunday as were in place at WHL
It wasn't the same team as did the away game. Same referee but different assistants.

Sadly no idea other than making more of a fuss in the media etc.

The problem with this is that the media controls it's own agenda which, as we know, does not favour Manchester City. So when there is an opportunity to stick up for ourselves we need to take it. MP appears to be a nice guy but that doesn't cut it with our media the way that it did with the Spanish. Whilst he has always come across as dignified, Barca game two years ago aside, until recently he hasn't pressed hard enough over poor referee decisions. I suppose it is hard to do this and not sound like Martinez but I'd rather he sounded like that whinger than not adequately stand up solidly for our club against the incompetent and the cheats. I think it is a disgrace that he hasn't said anything strongly enough to get fined by the FA. When Mourinho has done that in the past it meant that the issue was kept in the papers/websites and discussed more, kept in the public eye.

Perhaps when they analyse matches, and see the wrong decisions made, there is the desire by some refs to balance it out in future games?.

Of course we get a raw deal from refs, and I'm sick of reading the uncle toms on here who make out it happens to every club, because no it fucking doesn't
If you don't think we've been on the wrong end of some really shitty decisions over the last three years, even worse this, then you either have your head up your Arsenal or you're not a blue

The bottom line is we've not played well enough to be top of the league.
We up out game and play to our potential and we won the league, end of.
In the meantime we can blame the refs if we want but the problems are of our players and manager's making.

I don't think anybody can realistically say that we have been good enough this season, but that isn't the issue is it ?

The thread ia about whether we have had a fair deal from referees, including the disgraceful decision(s) by Clattenburg against Spurs .

Did you think he made the right call(s), and then decide whether they were due to incompetence or bias ?

Forget whether the players and managers are at fault for our position - you are just muddying the water and missing the point of the thread !

Perhaps an organised complaint by us the supporters to the Professional Referees Association or whatever they call themselves - because they certainly are failing football fans by letting such blatant mistakes or corrupt decisions .

I don't have the knowledge or clout to start such a complaint, but there are many on this forum who probably do.

I am fed up of shitty decisions influencing our games .

It's very hard to play to our potential when, as soon as you set foot in the opposition area we are either flagged for
non offsides or hauled down usually with no penalty and a booking for diving to boot. Having to walk tight ropes all the time
because a player has been booked for a nothing foul. I know we haven't been brilliant, but having to constantly battle
against officialdom as well as try and win matches, can be draining.

We have not had the rub of the green from referees this season but a lot of posts on this subject border on hysterical paranoia. Come on its getting embarrassing all this they are out to get us, the FA hate us, Clattenberg took a bung, they rigged the draw etc etc.

I bet we are not droning on about the refs this time next season....

Not everyone is on about an agenda. We are talking about some downright wrong decisions that have gone against us.
Why it should embarrass you, i don't know.

I'd be more embarrassed that you are blind to the obvious!

I agree we have had some wrong decisions (as the post says), its all the conspiracy stuff I find embarrassing (as the post says). If we had not been playing so poorly then we would not mention- its like moaning about a dripping tap on the titanic.

Some people get embarrassed so easily nowadays.

If we get shit decisions this time next year I'm guessing that we'll be moaning about it.
