Ferdinand on BT Sport

As you know, fella, I dismiss much of this "Agenda" stuff as paranoia. And I totally agree that the commentary was what you'd expect for an English club in Europe.

But the pre-match build up was fucking unbelievable. They literally didn't have a good word about the team. Not one. And it was full of enormous contradictions. I can't really remember the details, partly because someone rang me in the middle of it saying "Have you fucking heard this?" but you'd get someone incredulous at our defensive mistakes this season, and clips highlighting them, followed immediately by them saying how important Kompany is to the team. But no connection/correlation between the two. Not a great example but it was just awful punditry. Terrible. None of them had any knowledge or feel for the club and the season and the way we play. It was like a bunch of sneering pub fans.

Ah but at least on ITV there was Roy Keane.

I'm all for BT competing with Sky and all that - but fuck me the punditry is all wrong - the cunts in the studio and the cunts at the ground - absolute dog shite -
I'll be looking at more cost effective means of viewing next year

Thats fair enough DD and I knowing your views it certainly indicates a significant contrast between the match commentary and the pre-match build up. The difficult thing is to establish why??

Obviously the choice of Ferdinand does not help but for me its just lazy views and lazy narratives by poorly researched pundits. Obviously as we have a vested interest in City we are able to identify lazy ill-thought out observations, it does make you wonder when you listen to opinions
about other clubs how far from accurate they are.

The flip side of this is there seems to be a dumbing down of papers, tv, and the propagationof twitter, talksport so it would suggest the lazy, throwaway comments are what the majority want.

The thing what does my head in is when someone writes 'I heard this on talksports or I read this on twitter, its a load of rubbish. What were they expecting??

That's exactly what it was. A poor choice of pundits and very poor punditry. There wasn't "an agenda" at BT Sport, there was poor management and decision making at the top.

I think that's fair.
They've hired some big names but without even thinking how it's going to be conveyed.

The trouble I have is that the relentlessly negative comments create an image which is inaccurate. That image is usually City Bad, Utd/Chelsea/Spurs Good.

Because of the pundits they have, this will always be the case.
They couldn't even say "great performance" or even "great result" after the game either.

I concur with all that. Definitely no agenda at BT although I have no doubt some will suggest it.

The worrying thing is 'poor punditry' is now the norm, the standard across all areas of the media. It could be argued 'poor punditry' is what people now want. Why else would we see the rise of talksports, popularity of the tabloids as papers like the Independent struggle. Different readership/listener now wanting contoversy, soundbites but when its about your own team its infuriating.

What I don’t get is why they don’t try and build any excitement in the pre game. If I was a neutral sitting down to maybe watch the game and I sat through that preamble I would be thinking why should I sit through this if the pundit’s don’t seem to be arsed.

The more intelligent pundits or those who have an inclination about building a career put any kind of club allegiance to one side and try to say interesting things or provide insight. I just don’t see Rio or Owen having much of a future in TV. If I was a BT exec watching that I’d be straight on to the producer to say that the studio based coverage was absolute dross – sort it out. BT will not have football for long if they continue to produce coverage at that level. They will alienate city fans and fail to entertain neutrals, piss poor. I urge everyone to bin off their subscriptions.

BT`s usual suspects were bad, but Roy the **** keane over on ITV made them look like lifelong City fans with his verbal bile.

Lineker was quite happy to join the bantz and let Ferdinand get away with "Well, the Danes were playing a big team."

This after he was pulled up for saying Kiev were shite because of not playing for so long, and why old Midget Land had still beaten United?

To be fair Kiev were shite.

But the reality is United are increasingly seen as the inferior team/club around the world so silly little juvenile snipes like Wio's are just all the more plainly idiotic.

That is an absolute mystery. Undoubtedly Shearer and Owen as a kid were great footballers but were never known as having much of a personality so you wonder how they could have possibly got these roles.

Ferdinand is clearly lacking intelligemce and seems to have a free pass to do what he wants. Based on his history and behaviour you would never expect him to get a public facing role.

Looking forward to the pundits on Sunday.

Gerrard, Carragher, Redknapp and Hamann as the token city representative. Gerrard to say we haven't won often enough in the PL, Carragher to call our defenders clumsy, Redknapp to accuse us of financial impropriety and the (alleged but widely known) coke head to question our players commitment and professionalism. Probably Shearer in questioning MP's ability as a manager as well.

Oh dear, doing a recant for Frank. lol. BT's decision making and management performance was A+ Marketing Objectives Fully Met. Punditry likewise, carefully briefed, researched and primed to disrespect our club in every way possible, even though we achieved an impressive and record breaking victory. I thought you'd lost your blindfold Dave, but it wasn't for long was it?
