Manchester Pubs .....fave and worst.

Favourites are the Salisbury, port street beer house. Lass o gowrie used to be decent but was took over a couple of years back and always seem to struggle to have more than one or two ales on now. Bulls Head used to be a regular too.

I dislike most of the bars in the printworks, with the exception of waxy's. Not keen on deansgate locks either.

Around me there is nothing, of four pubs within a mile and a half one had a playcentre attached, one has just closed, another is about to close, and the last is only worth a pint if you don't mind the manager being more pissed than the clientele, and drinking in silence whilst being stared at aggressively. I think they opted for that as a sport rather than a dart board.

Usually head to didsbury instead, was there last night and may pop down again later if need a beer. Great memories of the main lights near the Nelson being effectively shut for hours after blues started swarming the roadside and spilled into the road itself after the aguero moment. A true sea of blue that day, strangely the raggy dog & partridge seemed to close early...

Shame the nelly got done for the telly thing, not been the same since.

The Kingsway Hotel in Levenshulme... Both "fave and worst" it was a great pub in its day but now a shithole and up for sale...Cryin shame :(

Brought up across the road from the left hand door. It had a cockney rag as landlord when the rags won the PL's first year. He went to the paper shop and bought a dozen of every single paper to send to his mates in London. In those days the media was pretty localised before the mass falling-in love with United.

I pass it without any thought of going in after every match nowadays, even after I had much of my misspent youth in there.

Went into town yesterday afternoon we were home by 8pm all the bars have fuck all atmosphere hardly and music in just lots of people paying a fortune for drinks. Week before went out with the lads doormen wouldn't let us in anywhere ended up on on the back streets off deansgat miles better, but tbh it's all shit these days pretentious bloody places.

Yep but this is a thread about pubs not bars. There's the difference. The old pubs in town are fantastic and a much better night out in my opinion, maybe it's my age but I like a pint and hopefully a table to sit and put the world to right with the missus or friends. I do the bars as well from time to time, I like Spinningfields and Castlefield but I'm more at home in The Vine!

I was at University in Manchester in the mid-eighties. Best was an appalling flea pit called The Coach & Horses opposite the Piccadilly station ramp. The Lass O Gowrie was popular and brewed its own stuff, IIRC. The Old Garrett opposite the Cyprus Tavern too, interesting. Then there was a pub with a tiny bar fit for 3 people...The Circus? Maybe on Whitworth Street, I dunno. I forget.

facing the flat iron to the right..facing the market...on the edge of the shopping centre itself, had a spiral staircase....

Ah, I remember it now. Looked bloody awful.

Salford has had it's share of shithole boozers down the years.

I remember when Church Street in Eccles used to be buzzing on Friday nights in the late 80s. I had the misfortune to revisit the place a couple of years ago. Bloody hell, it has gone right down the pan.

Haha the Rainbow Rooms. A blast from the past. That's where they filmed the night club scene from the Paul Calf Video Diary. That was upmarket compared to the Silver Screen (which has been a Wetherspoons for 20 years). That was rough.

Top House, Grapes, Church, Lamb (where they filmed a couple of scenes for Pauline Calfs Video Diary) and Duke of York were my haunts as a 16 year old.

Scene from the Lamb
