Club-Supporter disconnect..

In the old days they often delayed a game by 15 mins or so when there were traffic problems etc.

I suppose if it's on telly then they are somewhat constrained but otherwise why not look after your supporters and just delay the kick-off?

Mentioned this thread to my dad yesterday. He has been going since the late 40s. He couldn't believe it. It was at half time and we were watching the legends present the supporter with the shirt for his 100th. Then the things we have seen this season like joe hart giving his shirt to a young lad who had travelled 450 miles yeserday. The respect shown to the young dad Chris shaw recently who passed away and the way the club embraced his family. There have been a number of other such examples this season. I could add the brilliant videos on the club website. A training ground that is used by the general public and local community. 6000 homes being built by adug in ancoats and new Islington. The great effort made to open the multi million new stand against Chelsea. The cheap ticket prices. The wonderful aguero 93.20 facilities. I could go on and on. I think the club is run absolutely superbly. I honestly do.

And I will say it again- we are still in 4 competitions.
but some of the players didnt wave to me at the last match, not going again

I agree for the most part mate! I just think there's a bit of disconnect with the fans and club at the moment that has stemmed ever since Gary Cook left and Txixi and Soriano came in. Anyways, onwards and upwards and up the blues!
I feel more disconnected when that Corporate bullshit merchant was handing out daft hats and flags and getting footballs booted in the crowd and all that other American cheese he introduced.

As with this "issue" it's all personal as this thread has personally shown. For you, it's Cook's US stuff whilst for others its the lack off contact for some it may be something completely. At the end of the day we're ran by a great set of people and I can hardly find a fault with anything; but as with anything there are always areas to improve.

I miss the Kippax..
I went with my Uncle when the new seated Kippax opened and I kept looking at him though the game and he was shaking his head over and over whilst looking around. I said "what's up Unc?" and he replied "this is just shit, I feel like someone has died" and he didn't return to a game for about five seasons and he used to go every week and still doesn't go anymore other than the odd game every few years. He still says that The Kippax was City, City was The Kippax more so than sky blue shirts, Colin Bell, Bert Trautmann and Helen's Bell. and after the Kippax went in 1994 he said City were never the same club.

Everton paying for their fans to go to the 2nd leg, if they went on wednesday, to make up for the kick off not being delayed. Class gesture

I know that this has been previously suggested before by the government and it came to nothing then too, so there is no guarantee that this will actually come to pass. However, those (like myself, I will freely admit) who are feeling somewhat let down by the club's doing away with Points of Blue may be interested to know that the government are considering making it mandatory for all clubs to hold twice-yearly meetings with fans as part of a series of suggested regulations to force clubs to pay more respect to their supporters:

The atmosphere has always been hit or miss however I agree it's really bad at the moment. I can't work out if it's still a hangover from the QPR game as nothing will ever compare. However I've also wondered if the atmosphere and tone of the fans is set by the manager and players , Zaba and Kompany show passion and a connection with the fans but the rest? (NB i have a man crush on Silva skill yes but passion not so much) Pelle has ice in his blood and as such doesn't connect to the fans (NB I don't want another Keegan you need more than just passion)

I think that all our different supporters clubs could have more engagement with the club,so hard to get player visits,
Remember the old supporters club, when the North stand gets its extension why don't the club change the souvenir shop into a new supporters club, and that could be used for all sorts of club events, and re engage with fans on match days or midweek meetings and player visits where all the different supporters clubs can come together, weekend entertainment on sat nights, restraunt for us lower paid non corporate fans.
Mary d's does well on match days, and supporters clubs can go upstairs there,so the club execs, are missing a trick on income there.Supportersclub members and any member of the city social club, would pack it out on match days. So if your a member of a supporters club you get immediate membership of the social club or you join the social club if your not a member of a supporters club.
Cityzens from all over the world can come in and soak up the match day atmosphere, possibilitys are endless!!!!! !

I seam to remember might be wrong wasn't there a bar / meeting room above the shop at one time
also city square is for fans and very good fare the bars are always packed long after highlights have finished
just ignorant people smoking where people are eating spoils it after the match

Just my 2 cents but I really would not be bothered about any entertainment put on by the club, if the efforts at City Square are anything to go by.

I feel CS needs a revamp as its a bit dated and quite naff now, although I think part of the problem is that it is aimed at the same audience that Disney is aimed at, ie the family stand, and I just can't relate to that in any way.

It's outdoor.

BORING

Look...we all miss Maine Road...nobody who attended the place couldn't...despite it being a shed of a ground

but some people start sounding like those old Kings Hall soul boys in Stoke...with their baggies and vests...proper school disco tackle

It's gone now lads...you need to move on...most of us have

Seems the Kings Hall soul boys are finding their voices mate.

A lot of people on here questioned this thread, but it was relevant then and it certainly is now.

I thought I'd seen it all until the screens on Sunday showed the electronic "Come on City" happy clappy abomination. The disconnection from the hard core support of our club could not have been better summed up than it that moment. I just looked at the people around me in SS1, looked at the floor and had a quiet shake of the head..

It's sad when you have to be prompted to clap rather than the quality and excitement of the football prompting it spontaneously. Perhaps it is aimed more at the corporate plastics who can't even be arsed coming out to watch the second half. Get some younger enthusiastic kids in who have a real desire to follow City, hopefully for a lifetime. Only problem is they are priced out of going now, so as us oldies die off, who will afford our tickets? Be careful for what you wish for City business managers, remember we are a football club, and need supporters not just customers, or is this an old fashioned view?? Sad if it is, as the sense of belonging and desire to follow the team regardless of the results will diminish, just as our form has.

The disconnect is widening, that is a fact, and will continue to do so unless conscious efforts are made to reduce it.

Whether a protest happens or not, all this anger these last few days is a start and someone high up at the club must surely be taking some notice of it all.

It's easy and lazy to dismiss the anger as a direct correlation between the teams current form and on the back of a disastrous derby defeat, but it goes deeper than that. Much deeper. Fuck me, as Blues we've seen far darker times than this, so to dismiss the discontent because we've had a piss poor season is absolute bollocks.

Personally, I think a walkout is flawed and only plays into the hands of the City-hating media, but something needs to be done to reconnect us to the Club we've loved all our lives. There's far brighter people on here than me who have genuine lines of communication with the Club. So, lets use that contact and get something done before the damage is irretrievable.

We're famed for our gallows humour. At the moment it feels like we're condemned to the hangmans noose and no-ones cracking any jokes..
