Club-Supporter disconnect..

I lived through this with Munster Rugby club, used to go man and boy with my Dad and brother. Always a cracking atmosphere, known the world over for the support. Thomond Park was literally a fortress, they were unbeaten there for decades.

Stadium expansion and "match experience" were introduced. None of us go anymore, pre match "entertainment". More stewards than supporters. Choreographed " atmosphere". Munster can't even fill Heineken cup matches.

They get marketing guys in to create a brand, not realising the brand that was already there was created over decades and didn't need fixing.

The only thing left here in Ireland where you can have a bit of atmosphere is the GAA and even that is changing.

It's sad when you have to be prompted to clap rather than the quality and excitement of the football prompting it spontaneously. Perhaps it is aimed more at the corporate plastics who can't even be arsed coming out to watch the second half. Get some younger enthusiastic kids in who have a real desire to follow City, hopefully for a lifetime. Only problem is they are priced out of going now, so as us oldies die off, who will afford our tickets? Be careful for what you wish for City business managers, remember we are a football club, and need supporters not just customers, or is this an old fashioned view?? Sad if it is, as the sense of belonging and desire to follow the team regardless of the results will diminish, just as our form has.

Do you mean the come on city on the screens when we had a corner? I liked that, I presume the idea was from when we had it at maine road

Maybe the 1894 lot could tell the club what the fans want instead of organising shitty displays that last 20 seconds. Also the head of the supporters club Kevin parker isn't exactly your average joe, hes not quite connected to everyday fan.
The club should invite a cross section from the ground and have a chat with them. Some chance

Shitty displays??? Wtf are you on about?

My 5 point action plan for customer joy.

1. Scrap Platinum
2. Radical S/T REDUCTIONS
3. Scrap membership scheme fees
4. Re-instigate £5 u16 tickets
5. Cap admission to £30

Agree with this.

The flag that said #CMONCITY on Sunday made my skin crawl!

Theyre not worth a wank mate. More flags yep but them foil displays, please

The foil displays are a bit meh but the flags and banners are superb. I always wondered why don't they bring them all to the games instead of just a few?, I presume all the flags and banners are stored somewhere so is it just a case of not being able to carry more into the stadium. As I said I like them but at any given game there are so few on display.

How long before the cheese merchants have music after goals?. It was laughable on Sunday the whole charade.

Spot on, whatever did happen to the posse of young boisterous lads going to the game?. If I ever feel like I'm over the hill I look around me at games and I'm positively youthful compared to most and I'm in my early 49s.

Went the U18 semi on Friday, and the club handed out plastic rattles to make some noise, yet run out of team sheets. For me the trouble is the stadium and how it's run, ie the need to control everything, "no you can't stand" "you can't there". Watching the Reserves at Hyde, you could stand were you liked, no need to have everybody in one stand there, Hyde had a club, so if you fancied a pint you could get one , even at the Athletics stadium people could pop to the sports hall for a quick pint before ,half time and at full time. But now you go and are treated like a kid by over the top stewarding, over priced shite food and crap cheesy half time games, and this is just at the Youth, Reserve and Women's games never mind the Disney feel at the First team games, People know how to watch football and don't need telling how to enjoy themselves !

I was there too...why the fuck was there a steward stopping fans standing in the full stand behind the goal? Some jobsworth justifying his existence somewhere? Off to Nantwich v Darlington tonight, can buy reasonable food and drink, stand where I want and no shite at HT....its calling me more and more.

Having been to many U18 and EDS games, I can safely say that Friday with them bloody rattle things was the first and only time I've seen them do that. Usually loads of team sheets, as well as being able to sit where you want along with putting your feet up on the seat in front without bother. Only thing that's missing is pints, but being sober that doesn't really bother me personally.

I get what you are saying, but the match "experience" compared to Hyde is crap, Like Tbilisi said, why have a steward stop people from standing anywhere on the terrace that night, It's like "we're got to control you, as you don't know how to behave at a football match" ! I do think the stewarding at CFA is over the top compared to Hyde and there is no need for it to be. So maybe they should look at how none league football is run, and copy it. As for a bar, there is a lot of dead space behind the east stand for one to going in .

If we're honest, the CFA is too big for what it is. The closest I've seen to it being anywhere near full didn't even involve City directly. It was when NYCFC were over. I think they do have to exert some sort of control rather than let people have the freedom of the stadium. As said, it's far too big, so would necessitate much more staff.

I get what you're saying completely. Sometimes I'd very much like a change from sitting in the North East Corner, but it is what it is.

I've been at CFA maybe half dozen times, havent ever been allowed to stand behind the goals. Not sure why it's controlled theres always been space there.

I remember it was pissing down one night at an EDS game, there were perhaps 300 people there and I was told quite specifically by one of the stewards that umbrella's were not permitted and had to be left at the wall. Too many rules and regulations, too much control and so little flexibility.

Yes most games the place is empty , but Hyde must hold about five six thousand, and there coped with let people move about. I get it made sense for them to open one stand, but why build stadium like it is, only to open one stand, and why had a big thing about having terracing only to have it shut most games, Like you said, you've been a lot of U18/Reserve games, have you ever felt like there was ever going to any trouble ? I bet you could play most games at the stadium without any stewards at all !
ps I would said the biggest game at the CFA was the Youth Cup Final verse Chelsea, I think it may of been the only time it's sold out.

It just seems completely over the top and rigid.
