isn't this the biggest and toughest part?

These days I don't think so. If the player is keen to join you, and you have our chequebook then you're 80% of the way there. Once you've got the agent onside, you get to the point where the club starts weighing up what their price is.

If the price is at all sensible, it's just a case of bartering and posturing until the clubs agree.

IF the price isn't sensible then the agent starts causing problems (knowing that his pay day is dependent on it) and then clubs start wondering if all this trouble is worth it.

I assume we'd have some informal discussions with Juve as to the price level. The last thing you want is that we'd get agreement with Pogba and suddenly Juve start pulling rabbits out hats in terms of terms and prices. I hope the third party rights issues are resolved at this stage.

Third party rights issue is resolved.

In french but you can use google translate.

Also, there's probably no need to speak to Juve about the price if we're talking to the agent. Mino Raiola will know what Juventus' valuation is.

£40m for another defender... but this guy is good, so hopefully this will be money well spent finally on CB.

It's a problem area mate without question and hopefully we can find the right formula. I still think otamendi could be top class under pep

£40million for a player yet to be capped for France because he's behind the likes of Koscielny, Mathieu,Sakho & Mangala for a left sided CB spot. A central defender who at only 21 has 6 red cards already in his career, the premier league record is 8 ffs. I mean what about him makes him worth that much money? because he punts long balls up to Aduriz(at a 50% success rate) all game akin to Boateng occasionally does to Lewandowski/Muller? His overall passing is no better than Mangala's, when Bilbao play pressing teams his accuracy regularly dips under 70%, which for a CB is atrocious.

Will be another poor CB acquisition to add to Peps list - Pique being the exception. Chygrynskiy, Caceres, Benatia & Henrique have been his other signings so far, all rubbish.

Is it just me who thinks he's a younger version of Otamendi?

He needs coached by the best though mate? John terry was always rash at times but learnt with better coaches and playing with and against better players? He's young enough to be taught and learn from more experienced players like vinny

Don't think its' that much of a problem, the full backs are more of a problem and the main problem area is the midfield !

remember when fernandinho couldn't get into the brazil side and was behind paulinho

Remember when Hart wasn't an England starter at 21, Silva barely started for Spain and Aguero became Argentina's number one forward.....Laporte will be no difficult. Also, Gundogan isn't a regular for Germany.

i dont imagine laporte being solid upon arrival. then it's up to fans not creaming him for it whether or not his development can take its course at city.

Again, we are paying too much for CBs.

The only players who deserve this amount of the money are the players who will you matches like Yaya,Aguero,Tevez, Silva, Hazard, Sanchez, Ozil,Pogba , Robben, Ribery...etc

Good luck getting a match winner for £40m on the current market. All those players would cost 50-80m with the exception of Ribery, Tevez, Yaya and Robben now, as they are all past it.
