Yaya-Keep or Sell?

Sell. Our defensive vulnerability stems from his lack of effort running back. He basically leaves Fernandinho as the only midfield player with too much space to cover. Then players like Kolarov and Otamendi run out of position to cover the gaps which creates even more space in the defensive line for the opposition to run into.

Gundogan would offer so much more off the ball. His passing, vision and technique make him an excellent replacement. At 25, he's also seven years younger than Yaya.

I wouldn't be surprised if we bought another second central midfielder especially if we sell Fernando. Fernandinho has been one of the better performers this season and should hold down a holding midfield role. Hopefully, Guardiola will bring Manu Garcia into the mix even more and Delph is good as home-grown cover.

Although sometimes true, in most cases that is bollocks. Us being wide open is purely down to tactical naivety (partly due to personnel on the pitch) and also poor instructions. The fact that he is put in a 2 man midfield is purely the managers fault. We have actually looked more vulnerable when Yaya isn't on the pitch and Fernandinho and Fernando have started. Another tactic that leads to us being massively open and defenders diving in is the offside trap that Pellegrini insists on playing, it actually gets to the point where defenders don't feel they can track back without breaking this line so they dive in. I've analysed most of our games this season to check out this offside tactic and most of the time our players dive in to rush the opposition to prevent them playing an early ball through the offside line, thus being taken.

When we had Mancini we would play possession football and keep the ball until there was a way through the defence, a style of play Yaya is suited to and a style albeit adapted that we'll end up playing under Pep. Theres no reason why Yaya can't do what Xabi Alonso has done this year. Pellegrini just doesn't suit Yaya style now he's older, attacking with little structure followed by an instant counter attack leading to us giving up a lot of possession would struggle to suit any player as we've shown but in particular a player who loves to get the ball down and play football.

Ultimately the decision is with Pep and he'll be able to decide who is surplus to requirements but don't judge his decision at Barca to the decisions he's going to make. The current Yaya even with his age is better than the one who played for Barca. I'm not saying don't sign anyone, i'd still attempt to bring in Gundogan and Pogba with Fernandinho and Yaya also remaining.

I doubt Yaya would be happy being a non-starter.
This is the crux of it for me - would he start rocking the boat if he wasn't a regular starter? He can still make important contributions going forward as an impact player in big games and a starter against the "lesser" teams as long as he has someone to cover his arse defensively.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrm

Yaya Toure I think we should pay him some more...

I was all for getting rid and starting afresh until recently. We are far better with him. If Pep can find a way - keep the monster.
We are always better with him in the team, as we have absolutely no one who can do what he does. However, that's not a good thing. Unless we develop the game plan to make the best of hius abilites, then it's time to sell.

Time to let go. He's to much of a passenger these days, the special moments have died off too. Been our most important player over the tears but it's time for someone like pogba to step in.

Not bad passenger by being the 2nd goal scorer ( 6 goals) after Aguero

And he came 3rd in assists after Silva and KDB with ( 5 assists)

Thats not a bad record for CM.

It's very good stats for cm. He still can come up with a bit of magic, but his day has gone. I can't see yaya playing in a pep team unless he plays where alonso does for Bayern. Another year older next season and on a big salary, I think it's time to let him go.

Stats are not everything, looking at his overall game gives a a whole other picture of him.

We signed Lampard last year and he was not a bad addition.

Go to whoscored.com and see the rating of the players, players whom are doing well get high rating, it asses almost everything ( Goals, Assists, Key passes, dribbles....etc)

Its naive to neglect the stat imo.

Not stats like that.

But purely stats based on goals and assists.

Look at Kramaric from Leicester, goalmachine statwise in weaker leagues, never really hit the ground at Leicester.

Fair enough mate, I'm not going to argue over it, because you might be right in sayings he's got a bit left in him. I'm trying to look at the bigger picture and ignoring stats and look at his overall display over the season.

If he stays, he will probably be the deepest of the three midfielders.

I think everyone would be happy for him to play a 'Lampard' type roll if he stays - everyone apart from Yaya unfortunately. I doubt he sees himself as a bit part player and after his career you can understand why. No footballer likes to think his times nearing an end, certainly not players like Toure. It's a big decision that has to be made by both club and player. I'm leaning towards him going and Pep looking to completely refresh the middle of the park.

he can fuck off now and his knob of an agent.

Seluk demanded a new deal by Easter, but nothing. "From this moment we start to discuss with clubs about Yaya going there in the summer."

Seluk: "Yaya has given everything for the club and we don’t feel that this situation is the right way to show how much they appreciate him.”
