John Stones

People don't get it do they.peps teams play possession football and the defenders need to come out into midfield to create space so they have to be comfortable with the ball stones won't have to defend a lot because we will push into the opponents half outnumbering there forward players
This. Most of our defense will be from holding possession. Teams can't beat you when they don't have the ball. If I were being honest, I part hope and expect him and Laporte to be our Starting CBs next season, and at worst in the 17/18 season. They are both far superior footballers to any defenders we've had in in Adug era, and that includes Kompany and Boateng.

Yes, they'll have horrendous defensive mistakes, and sometimes get beat easily. And yes on those occasions, folks will whine for the days of Kompany and Lescott and wax lyrical about how they were proper defenders who could defend and bla bla bla. But by seasons end I expect those 2 to have conceded less goals than any other combo. Not because they are better defenders, but because they are better footballers, and thus defended fewer acyaual attacks.

It's going to be counterintuitive. Bit let's tally the score if this happens.

Why didn't you post a picture of Pep instead?

Absolute bollocks!

Boateng was in and out of the Bayern team the year before pep arrived and has even said publicly that Pep was the first manager who taught him how to defend.

And he also turned Mascherano from a great defensive midfielder into one of the best CBs in the world.

You might want to spend some time reading up on our new manager before spouting bollocks like that.

Mascherano one if the best cbs in the world? HAHAHAHA... Fantastic cdm.. Not even close to being one of the best cbs in the world.

And in and out if the team when he makes around the same appearances every season now as he did then.

He won the treble and cemented his place in the german team before Pep was his manager, hardly shit was he?

As much as Mangala has improved his defending and lessened his brainfarts in the recent weeks, it is completely unimaginable how bad Mangala is on the ball. It is very cringey everytime you look at him having the ball, it's like playing hot potato. Even the way he pass the ball looks awkward. Same can be said with Joe too. Panicking all the time. Otamendi made a lot of bad passes but at least he made the pass in a decisive manner, not panicking or anything. Most of his turnovers happen because he tried to thread the needle and (obviously) failed to do so.

People should watch Barca and Bayern play now and really look at how their players are handling the ball. I dare to say 1 on 1 Mangala is a better man defender than Pique or Boateng. But why is Pique and Boateng world class? It's the system that they are in. The way they play and defend makes it less likely that they concede. I gotta be honest I haven't seen too much of Stones or Laporte but if the WORLD'S BEST manager is bullish on us getting them, I'd have to say he might know something that we don't. If I, casual football watcher, can cringe so bad whenever I see Mangala has the ball, I'd imagine Pep would pass out seeing it.

I think a lot of EFC players have lost their focus this season. None more so than Stones. I thought he looked a really good prospect, but he's been terrible this season. Making so many basic mistakes.

John Stones remains a wanted man despite Everton criticism

John Stones remains on the wanted lists of Europe’s most respected managers, despite the criticism he is facing for his Everton performances.

Manchester City currently lead the race for Stones, but their incoming manager Guardiola faces plenty of competition for the former Barnsley youngster – not least from local rivals United.

They never seem to make the 'support' count. Their defence this season has been wretched, Stones included, and the money they spent on Lukaku isn't going to bring any great return - he wants off!

Without Lukaku they'd be in a relegation battle, wouldn't be in an FA Cup semi and with 3 years left on his contract, if he does leave, they'll make a huge profit as well.

So that's a pretty good return really.

Not been wowed by Stones and he would cost a lot. Rather stick with the Mangala, the lad on loan in Turkey, Vinnie and Laporte and let the horizontal defender move on.

If John Stones was called Johannes Stonious, the media would be banging on about how the premier league teams waste money on average players rather than giving English players a chance.

Defenders need to be able to defend, the best ones look comfortable on the ball as well. But they can still defend. If looking comfortable on the ball is the only criteria, stick Silva and Nasri back there.

If he was called Eliaquim Mangala posters on here would searching the world over for excuses and turning a blind eye to any mistakes.

You don't have to dare, he is. Bit like I've been banging on since the days of Lescott, to go where we need to be, it is defenders who are footballers first that counts. That's just how the best teams have it. No one at the very top uses defender first players.

There are so many areas that need upgrading we won't have to wait long before Evertonians are asking Uncle Kenwright "Where's the Lukaku money gone, Bill!"

Over priced, over rated we should stay well clear unless he has to be bought for our British quota.

Stones along with Gundogan and Isco could become our Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta

Whether it'd work in the PL, esp. away, is another matter (Dinho can come in) but both Gundogan and Isco remind me of Xavi and Iniesta and Stones has the skillset to be coached the Busquets role (it'd also allow him to play knowing he's not the last line of def and he'd be able to slot in at CB if we have injuries there), and who better to teach him than Pep?

All 3 probably wouldn't cost much more than 1 Pogba

CBs next season, for me: Kompany, Laporte, Otamendi, Denayer (RB), Stones (DM)

So you want us to spend 50m pounds on an average at best CB just to convert him to a holding mid? And you're saying he could be Pep's next Busquets? We could get Weigl for half that

We should stop pissing about and sign Pogba.
