why do we always attack the family stand in the 2nd half?

I think its only happened twice - away team attacking the North Stand in the second half - in the last five years. Once against Newcastle and, more recently, against Burnley - I remember them scoring a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw down the Family end. I can only guess that they must have won the toss that day and choose ends.

As a traditionalist (and a North Stand resident), I hope that us attacking the North Stand in every second half continues forever.

I'm pretty sure Hughes will change it on Saturday if his team get the opportunity. They switched when they beat us 1-0 in 2014 when Diouf scored.

Pretty sure Diouf scored in second half at the away end.

You're probbly right now I think about it, but I'm sure Hughes has switch things round one time we played them. Had a look on the OS for game highlights but the search function on there is crap so I gave up.

Definitely remember Diouf scoring at the away end, through Hart's legs I think.

I asked my 9 year old son at the match yesterday and he said without thinking that its because the home dressing room is on the family stand side of the tunnel, so they come out of the tunnel on the family stand side, then enter the pitch on the family stand side, so take that end of the pitch for the first half........obvious innit

Sometimes it takes a simple child's brain that hasn't been addled by years of bullshit and alcohol to see things clearly !!

Never actually noticed before but I think you are right. Presumably, Both teams want to start the game kicking towards their most vociferous fans. These are both at the same end of the stadium (south) so whoever wins the toss chooses to kick north to south first.

I suspect it's just habit.
I wonder if it's the same convention with other teams - I've never really paid enough attention to notice if they always start out in the same direction.

But they have a choice of stay or swap ends at the coin toss and obviously they can't be arsed to change ;) so they stay
