If we never sacked Hughes

I think Hughes gets a hard time on here, and yes, Jo and Cruz etc were unmitigated disasters, but at the same time, we were literally just starting out on this journey, had money but not so much pulling power for the very big stars, and we were in a hurry too. We made mistakes (but we're still doing that now - Bony's been no better than Jo!)

Plus, there were some real hit signings too - Zab, Kompany, Bellamy, Given, Barry, Lescott, Toure and Tevez, and even Adebayour had his moments.

We'll never know what would have transpired had Hughes stayed, but we have moved onwards and upwards regardless. I like the guy, and have no grudges with him.
I think he's an angry, overly-serious, humourless, bland, cliche throwing over achiever. Great hair though. Strong.

in 6 more years under Hughes, we wouldnt be where we are now. wouldnt have won as many cups and is debatable to win the league in a slower club progression, let alone win it twice in 6 years.

Spot on post and you can add Nigel De Jong to the list. Zab and Kompany are City legends signed by Hughes.

He took us forward but maybe a bigger name Mancini, was needed to get Silva, Aguerro and Yaya. However, Hughes signing Kolo certainly made it easier for us to get Yaya. He certainly played a key role in the progression of this club. He showed passion on the touch line and fought tooth and nail for the club. I am grateful for the role that he played.

Took us forward!? He took us from 9th to 10th. That first season under him was pretty dire, especially up until
January. He was sacked with us in what 7th? He was taking us nowhere. Inept manager for us.

Did Hughes even play that much of a role in the capture of Tevez? I can't imagine Hughes being a big selling point to a player who had done much bigger things elsewhere.

I'm not trying to make out Hughes is a great manager or that he should have been retained beyond two years. However the squad when he left us was superior to the one he inherited. Roberto only had to tinker with the defence and the defensive midfielders as his purchases in that department were good.

He should be credited for his role, (whatever that might have been) in bringing Vince, Zabs, Nige, Gaz and Carlos to the club. When they last met up both Zabs and Vince went up and warmly greeted him, so they respected him.

Nothing more than a Welsh Allardyce, for me.
I was disappointed with the way he was removed but then again he knew it's all part and parcel and goes with the territory.

He was and is clueless.
Slightly worse than Pellers and he isn't lucky (which Pellers is).
Hence why Stoke are where they are in the League.

I would have sacked him after the FA Cup debacle against Forrest; he gets an easy time as far as I'm far as I'm concerned

Mark Hughes is like Martinez, Bruce et al. Fakes, media darlings despite the fact they continually are crap.

He has a lot of friends in the media, that was one of the reasons why we got such a hard time when he was sacked..

He was totally useless tactically..

When Bobby arrived the first thing he did was put Vinny at centre half and the rest is history..

Hughes bought Vinny and played him in centre midfield OMG

I think he's of a similar level to Pellers.

I'm not Pellegrini's biggest fan but he is out of Hughes's league.

To be fair to Clueless, Vinny was bought in 2008 and around that time for Hamburg he had flittered to and fro between CB and CDM. He had some okay games in midfield.

I'll never feel sorry for someone who gets sacked, collects a couple of million and then walks into another job on similar money

And he wasn't nicknamed "Clueless" by us for nothing

And sign 2 left backs, Nasri, Silva, Milner, Aguero, Džeko, Balotelli, AJ Yaya and Pizarro to turn us into a title winning side. Oh and pull Vinny out of the reserves, get rid of all those waste of space strikers, get Hart back, toss Ireland, Tal Ben Haim, Bridge etc.

I think if we had worked harder to give him a platform to succeed, who knows what would have happened in the second half of the season

What else could we have done, he was backed in every regard from getting to clear out all the staff and bring in his own to getting a £300m budget over 3 transfer windows when £20m still bought you a top player. He wasn't good enough and we brought in somebody that was.
