Missing out on Champions League.

Think it would pretty horrific myself. We might just have three years of Pep, to have him hamstrung to some degree as soon as he arrives would be a real blow. Not to mention that it would be united we would be losing out on the CL spot to. We don't need to gift those fuckers an advantage they haven't earned after the years it took to get ahead of them. As Bill says, it's a fucking disgrace we are even discussing this going into the last match.

Don't think the UCL is a massive attraction for players with our reputation and Pep now coming, a year in Europa at a top team is hardly disaster (Ideally we're in the UCL)

Not only that, we dont live in a bubble and would be handing that much more to United to invest. The condition they are in, that could be decisive. It would be monumentally stupid of the management to hand that advantage to a key rival through decision-making which prioritises short-term CL glory for long term stability.

I fully agree mate. This club has been built to compete in the Champions League NOT to get to a semi final, play shit, get knocked out and do the Europa League rounds the following season because of our rapidly regressing Premier League performances. Sheikh Mansour's investment in the club's infrastructure, playing staff and our pursuit of Guardiola is testament to that.

Not being in the Champions League will not mean Manchester City will cease to exist but to say it will not seriously impact on us even if just for a season is ridiculous. Everyone connected with the club including sponsors have bought into the idea of us regularly competing at the highest European level and the fact we're relying on matching ManUre's result on the final day of the season just so we can attain a qualifying round place is a troubling reflection of our decline no matter which way anyone wants to dress it up.

This is the reason why last Sunday the vast majority of our fans chose to show their dissatisfaction with the way our once feared team has regressed to a near Europa League level by leaving early........ They voted with their feet safe in the knowledge that whatever happens, we'll only have to endure a further 90 minutes of Manuel Pellegrini and then that period in our history is over for good.

It smacks a bit of revisionism. Now we have a chance of missing out, it suddenly isn't that important. It is, as someone pointed out somewhere, all bollocks.

Couldn't agree more. As @Neville Kneville pointed out last week, we're effectively in danger of being relegated from the Champions League and if that's not a cause for concern for a club with our ambitions, I don't know what is and in my eyes the Europa League is no consolation.

As it stands realistically the best we can hope for is a place in the play-off final for a chance to compete in the Champions League proper. How has it been allowed to come to this?

we simply were too nice. our board aren't thick, they could see that that MP was not up to the job, I could so they must have done. problem was he went and fluked the bloody title, so a bit like lvg across the road if he wins the cup he's technically unsackable. doesn't excuse what's gone on since mind, he's made error after error and for a club with ambitions as high as ours its bordering on negligence to have kept him in place. no great mither to the fans, we've proved we'll watch city at any level, but for "the project" its a commercial disaster.

It was a disaster to tread water and indeed sink for 3 years awaiting a manager, no major club should have done that, however good pep is/maybe.

Am I reading this correct, are you suggesting our priorities should be to just qualify for the CL year on year and not be too worried how far we progress in it each time?

To lose the £50 Million minimum and hand it to United is reason enough for me to consider it a disaster.

It would be a huge missed opportunity. To give that up to them would be terrible. The more we keep them out the harder it is to get back in as Liverpool and Spurs have found.
Pep knows what it takes to be successful in the Champions League so it would be a waste not to be there.

If we had done what we should have done and concentrated on the Premier League then we would already have qualified for the Chumps.

The priority at the start of each season should be the PL everything else is a bonus.

Excluded Middle. First priority is to win be league, second is to win the CL. That's what strong squads are for. Seriously jeopardising the chance of being in the CL and all the benefits that accrue year on year, to the extent we have to rely on other results to qualify, is stupid.

Pep's a failure in the Champions League, he's only won 2 out the last 7 consecutive semi-finals he's managed to get to. It must be true the media say so...

In fact according to Paul Wilson at the Guardian Pep has more chance of making an impact in the Europa League.
