We have won the big one with Joe, twice. On top of that some of his CL performances have been utterly stunning
+1

Hart wasn't holding us back at all from winning everything in front of us.

Just the opposite - Hart propelled us to the successes we achieved.

Don't know why the moderators decided to lump my "Will Joe Hart be With Us Next Season" thread into this mega thread... but whatever.

The interesting thing for me... in spite of Joe's world-class performance this season - is whether or not Joe Hart will even be a member of our team next season.

Pep's teams have always featured a sweeper-keeper between the sticks -- Joe isn't up to this. Moreover, Barca have alienated Ter Stegen. As much as I like Joe, I think he'll be gone next season, perhaps in the Winter transfer window, and that Ter Stegen will be one of our first signings.

Hart's distribution under Mancini was pretty awful. He invariably lumped it forward with generally poor results.

Under Pellers, Hart didn't seem to be under instruction to just lump it forward every time. Consequently, Hart's distribution went from god awful to way above average.

So yeah.... the punching thing could easily be misguided instruction from the coaching staff.

And in your mind, that made him world class this season?

He is a very very good keeper, but taking off the blue tints, he doesn't demonstrate everything needed to be considered WC. He is young enough still to develop those attributes, whether he can or not, time will tell.

By world class I mean top 10 in the world. To be clear, I don't think he's top 5. But honestly.. in spite of some short-comings, for me he's top 10 in the world this year.

Can you name 10 keepers who were clearly better than Hart this season?

Once you move beyond say top 7, it's debatable.

Edit - In seasons past Joe has always been a good/great shot stopper. But either his consistency has been way off and/or his distribution has been bad. This year, Joe has put together a complete performance for me - great shot stopper, good distribution, good consistency, good leadership. It's this overall great/good performance that makes Joe world class this year, but not in years past (though he's always been very good).

IMHO, Joe is only WC at shot stopping. Command of his box, Dealing with set pieces, punching instead of catching, distribution, comfortable on the ball are all areas for improvement. I suspect other that Neur, not many will excel at all of those attributes. I guess we just differ in interpretation of what WC means to us

I'd take
Neuer
De Gea
Lloris
Courtois (injured, so not sure, and perhaps not a team player - doesn't seem to want to be in Chelseas's squad next year)
Cech (probably, but has very few years left)

in front of Hart... but beyond that... not sure. I don't watch all the leagues so I may be missing some top keepers. But for me, in spite of some limitations, Hart is in the mix for spots 6-10.

Hart is great at shot stopping - has good distribution (lately) and seems to be fired up for every game (motivating the team as best he can).

I agree that Joe isn't good with the ball at his feet. Which is why I don't think he'll be here next season under Pep.

For me in his current form and how he has shown character and come back from being dropped, I would take only de gea and neuer ahead of him...

Feel lloris and courtois are a bit over rated.... Courtois will only get better though

Will be interesting to see whether Joe's distribution improves when he has 10 players in front of him that actually move when he has the ball.

it's also important that we have a (relatively) local player in the heart of the squad to anchor the club to the local community. Hopefully, we'll have plenty of home grown players in the future but for the time being we need Hart, especially as the longer serving players are coming to the end of their city careers.

That is exactly the word. Stunning!
In that last 3 seasons: Barca 4 times (the last time away was simply unbelievable with 10 great saves) and if Aguero had scored the pen at the Camp Nou the last 10 minutes would have been really, really interesting! PSG twice and Real Madrid twice this season (an average of 4 great saves a game).
His distribution is only seemed poor because NOBODY moves to get into space - it really is criminal that the full backs dont push up AND a centre mid doesn't drop back AND the centre halves split giving him many more options.

The only thing wrong with Joe's game is his distribution something Pep can sort out with a little work !!

Agreed very frustrating how slow Joe is getting rid of the ball !! He needs to learn from Kasper Schmeichel who within seconds gets the game moving..

Could it be that the speculation about him being replaced is due to Pep being unable to forget his performance in the 1-3 defeat by Bayern?

Actually don't think it's Joe inability to throw the ball fast, more to do with lack of movement in front of him. It's a similar case with our midfield/defence hogging the ball because there's no viable options. It's like the squad's philosophy to retain the ball and not waste possession.

This!! Finally some sense...

The Rag twat at Leicester has options as soon as he has the ball, with both Vardy and Mahrez going either wide on down the middle, at pace, so its a fairly easy ball out. Joe has very little, except a completely isolated Kun,who doesn't seem to know his role under Pelligrini, Navas charging back to his own goal, i.e. going in completely the wrong direction and occasionally the treelike Bony and Nacho who is still learning the game............ all that said what would you do? Having been a keeper i know for sure i wouldn't be hoofing or throwing the ball long as it will just come back again!

I fully agree.....and that's what the coaching staff should be doing.

Obviously when you attain a level within a professional sport you already have the skills. In instances like Joe, they just need to be refined and brought to the fore.

I honestly cannot believe anyone is saying they'd rather have De Gay over hart. Talk about fucking mad?

How many times has De Gea won the Golden Glove whilst taking the Premier league by storm?

Lost count of the amount of times I've seen Joe lose his temper when in possession of the ball evidently at the lack of options he is being presented with.
