"I am looking forward a lot to next year because Manchester United is not renowned for being second."

Nope, more like 5th these days :)
That statement perfectly encapsulates the arrogance coursing through the veins of that club in the early part of the post-Ferguson era. That cockiness will slowly whither before our eyes in the years ahead. I think their decline could be replete with much more self-doubt than Liverpool's, who never had to witness at close quarters their local rivals rise up and supplant them.

Solsjaer was on the radio earlier giving it the usual 'Manchester Untied should be challenging.........'. It's a load of bollocks, what does 'should' mean in sport?
They aren't challenging because they are shite, therefore they 'should' not be challenging for anything despite thier name. No one, just as with Liverpool, can put forward any tangible reason why they 'should' be challenging other that they challenged years ago. Not one

Until they both realise that, which they won't, they will struggle to address the underlying problems in the club/team

I'm not too sure about the self doubt you talk of, these lot & the dippers are delusional. I don't know how they never doubt themselves.

It's the height of stupidity to assume that because something happened before it must continue along the same lines, irrespective of whatever extraneous influences are brought to bear. It's like a nineteenth century owner of a horse drawn Hackney Carriage dismissing the internal combustion engine on the basis that he's done well enough over the last ten years, so that's bound to continue, irrespective.

Their mindset will be their undoing. My overriding hope is that we don't fall into the same enticing trap. It's a big ask.

Well I've stopped expecting the worse even when we're leading 3nil so maybe we are ;-)

It's oversimplifying things to suggest that the dynamics of both their declines will be played out identically. They won't. The chaotic world we live in doesn't work like that.

Something we are all secretly frightened of is someone we have a lack of fear and respect for, becoming feared and respected by others.

Liverpool and united have always feared and respected each other, irrespective of the mutual antipathy. Liverpool rising again was something united fans were mentally prepared for. Our rise was not. This makes them, in their footballing heart of hearts, frightened.

I believe this will greatly impose itself on their disposition towards the wider footballing landscape in the years ahead.

That's so true, if anything our cup for cockups history gave us the perfect disguise for them not taking us seriously until it was too late. Same thing just happened with Leicester.

I guess finishing 5th makes him a man of his word

Jose Mourinho has agreed a deal with Manchester United. (Source - beIN Sports)

beIN Sports tend to have very solid info on Mourinho.

Think they will announce it after the game

Spot on. Similarly, I am comfortable in their continued delusion because, by the time they realise, they will be beyond repair.

If this Jose rumour is true.

Who's up for starting the rumour he's sitting in the stands at Wembley....

Anyone understand Turkish?

lots of chatter he's snubbing the rags for fernabache.

Laugh my bollox off if that's the case.

This week I have seen:

Marcus Rashford 'The Story so Far' as a Sky Sports headline.
I have heard hours of debate about whether he should attend the Euro's.
A BBC biopic debating his future legendary status.

There has been significantly more so I checked out some stats and I noticed that this is a player who has scored five goals, according to his Wiki site. What on earth has brought us to the point where a very junior player is being talked about, on national media, as a legend?

I was born in Moss Side in 1968. All my life I have been subjected to this while my beloved club sat in the relative doldrums. It for this reason that I hope they suffer a slow and painful decline with LVG at the helm; steering them to near success but achieving nothing. Let it begin in the FA cup final: my despise of that club grows stronger by the day.
