Going Through Lights On Red

Yes I am.

This week (whilst driving) a car manoeuvred into the right lane of a dual carriageway, to turn right at a roundabout. Another car swerved to undertake on the inside, then moved in front of this car, and proceeded to indicate left, telling the driver behind they should have been in the inside lane.

This sort of bullying is all too common, not to mention hypocritical. The angry driver had to exceed the speed limit to perform this pathetic and needless aggression. So what would have happened if he had remained in line? He might have reached his destination ten seconds later.
He was probably a cyclist this weaving in and out is exactly the sort of thing they do.

You are telling me as if I don't also feel there are plenty of bad drivers on the road who perform plenty of stupid manoeuvres. I commute into the city centre every day, I see bad driving but on a daily basis nearly reaching double figures, awful cyclists too. I am going off what I see every day and whilst cars may jump an amber to red type light the cheek of the many cyclists who feel the lights don't apply to them frustrate me, not a just turned red but a junction of all on red and they feel they can hop through. Wankers

Red appears to mean fuck all to a growing number of motorists.

No Tom, I wasn't having a go at you. I just added that illustration to my reply to you. Apologies if this wasn't clear.

I agree with you. There are plenty examples of irresponsible cycling and driving, and everyone could show more tolerance and patience in my view.

I will stick up for my fellow cyclists though, and try to promote a better level of mutual understanding. Their lives are at risk when drivers don't give them due consideration.

I agree although there is no justifying blatant ignorance towards red lights, I also think cyclists have a massive chip on their shoulder. Last week I was in a queue and I was due to turn left, the traffic was moving so I edged closer to the pavement in anticipation to turn left. The traffic stopped and I was unable to turn left and found myself edged into the cycle lane. I then checked my mirror and seen a cyclist approaching so I edged back out of it creating a clear path for the cyclist to go through. The cyclist comes passed and bangs on my window a few times. Now had I of not been in a queue I would of caught up to him and ripped his fucking head off and beat him with his wanky camera.

Makes me laugh when a road cyclist mounts the pavement to bypass a red light. For example turning left at a junction when the light is red. Onto the pavement and round the corner then back into the road. Seen them do similar with pedestrian crossings, actually using the crossing to continue their journey (usually to turn right) while the light is red.

I was waiting at some lights at a side road, which then turned green, and as I set off, as car went through the lights on the main road, which had been red for a few seconds. I was furious so followed them and was going to give them some abuse but when I got near I realised it was my niece. I knew she was going to my brother's house so I caught up with her there and gave her a talking to.

Funnily enough, my daughter has just passed her blue-light emergency driver training so she can go through red lights but she stresses that you still have to drive safely.

Most of the road cyclists I know also own cars. It is estimated that 83% of road cyclists also have access to motor vehicles, so that certainly is most of them. In any case, vehicle excise duty is based on CO2 emissions, and that is zero for bicycles. So cyclists are paying the appropriate duty for their cycles, and the same amount as disabled drivers, police cars and members of the royal family.

You also state that mirrors are being installed so that 'thick' cyclists can look behind them to see if a vehicle is about to turn left, suggesting that the cyclist should give way to a vehicle behind him. What code for road usage do you operate under, where someone is expected to give way to a vehicle behind them? The cyclist has right of way in this instance.
Ah, most of the cyclists YOU know.
Most of the cyclists I know don't , so like your estimations, doesn't mean a thing. I never said anything about cyclists looking behind them! On a couple of occasions a cyclist has come out of nowhere, up the inside as I'm about to make a left turn. Helmet, hi-viz, camera, all the gear and no idea!
I always give cyclists plenty of room when passing, but there's just too many dicks that use cycles with no regard to their own or anybody else's safety. At the end of the day, if cyclists had a bit more consideration at junctions we wouldn't need to be installing mirrors on traffic signals would we?

Cyclists I know, but statistics show 83% of cyclists also drive.

I know some cyclists are irresponsible. All the more reason to more wary of their unpredictability.

IMO jumping reds is far more dangerous than speeding & middle-lane driving causes far more accidents/traffic slowing

traffic lights are a fucking nuisance. they should be fucked off. slow every **** down.
Totally agree. They hardly had any in South Africa. When I got to a junction over there I just closed my eyes, put my foot on the pedal and hoped for the best. It worked for me.

Gotta love the people on here making general comments on "cyclists" as though every person on a bike behaves the same as every other person on a bike.

The vast, vast majority of cyclists behave sensibly on the road. Just because you've seen the odd dangerous bit of cycling, all that means is that the odd cyclist does something dangerous. You just don't notice the majority who do nothing wrong.

Same with drivers. The vast, vast majority are safe drivers, with the odd person driving dangerously. And a car can do a lot more damage than a bike.

And for the record, I'm a driver.

When I'm driving in the local area (Leve/Burnage/Fallowfield), there isn't a single instance when I don't see a driver run a red light. It's an epidemic. Don't get me started on cunts texting on mobiles when fucking driving.

Good luck to your daughter, is the blue light for ambulance driving or Old Bill?
