Going Through Lights On Red

So yes green means go... that's what I didn't understand what exactly is a next phase... are we talking about a different set of lights ahead of the one they are waiting at?
 
After 11pm up till say 6am, especially in more rural areas, they should definitely get rid of red lights and just have every set on flashing ambers. You approach slowly and if it's clear then drive through.

Understand the need for lights during busy periods but in the middle of the night it's a joke having to sit at lights for 30 seconds with no other cars anywhere near the junction. I don't bother anymore and treat them as a give way sign.

It's a legal thing with the green light, it's not permission to just "go", it means you can proceed if it's safe to do so. You still need to check for such things like emergency vehicles crossing your path, as well as other people who may have missed the red light coming across you.

And it's also worth remembering, in the eyes of the law, amber also means stop.

I know this shite cos I just did a Safe Drivers course at Carrington as a result of jumping a red light at the top of Regent Road...

My wife got done as she was half way between the lights when traffic slowed and stopped so went through one on green one on red. She wrote a letter explaining and they dropped the fine and didn't apply points . That was here though and not UK.

Most of them pay as much as you. This particular one probably pays more than you. Certainly more than the average car driver.

Most of the road cyclists I know also own cars. It is estimated that 83% of road cyclists also have access to motor vehicles, so that certainly is most of them. In any case, vehicle excise duty is based on CO2 emissions, and that is zero for bicycles. So cyclists are paying the appropriate duty for their cycles, and the same amount as disabled drivers, police cars and members of the royal family.

You also state that mirrors are being installed so that 'thick' cyclists can look behind them to see if a vehicle is about to turn left, suggesting that the cyclist should give way to a vehicle behind him. What code for road usage do you operate under, where someone is expected to give way to a vehicle behind them? The cyclist has right of way in this instance.

The problem today is everyone is running late, or they think they are a great driver by how much time they can shave off their journey. I've not been driving long but the amount of tailgaitors trying to rush you even when you're driving at the limit seems crazy and they will be the first to say someone else is a bad driver when they drive like complete dicks rushing, beeping and causing confusion everywhere they go.

Yes I am.

This week (whilst driving) a car manoeuvred into the right lane of a dual carriageway, to turn right at a roundabout. Another car swerved to undertake on the inside, then moved in front of this car, and proceeded to indicate left, telling the driver behind they should have been in the inside lane.

This sort of bullying is all too common, not to mention hypocritical. The angry driver had to exceed the speed limit to perform this pathetic and needless aggression. So what would have happened if he had remained in line? He might have reached his destination ten seconds later.
