Can we join the Euro by stealth? Will Turkey join the EU by stealth?

Clearly there can and will be gradual steps towards further integration by stealth. But that final stage of full political integration cannot be achieved by stealth. If the vote is a narrow win for Remain I would expect that any major treaty change would need a referendum.

It was said before the Scottish Referendum that it would be the only chance for a generation for the Scots to vote for independence. But does anyone really believe that now? A recovery in the oil price and some major event impacting on the relationship between Scotland and the rest of the UK would result in a second referendum.
 
I see the out campaign have bizarrely started making manifesto pledges about immigration. Not sure how that works. I know it shouldn't come down to personalities but the leaders of the leave campaign don't inspire a great deal of confidence that they know what they're talking about.

If we do vote to leave, I hope that there will be a more astute bunch of politicians than Johnson, Farage and Gove that will be responsible for negotiating the terms of our departure.

Good point. I agree AlgarveBlue that the City has played a big role in the relative prosperity of the Country.

My comment was more about addressing the notion of some utopia apparently existed before we joined the EU

To think we are arguing of who is best between Farage / Johnson or if man and Gideon is frightening. It's like having to choose between Mills/Ferdinand or Keane/Owen to be pundits on a city game

I think the leave campaign have been very disorganised and fragmented in their messaging - they should have a spectrum of voices on the same platform and I would of included Lord Owen and Mervyn King to just get some less charismatic people sending the message as there are a lot of voters that will just listen to the grey suit man thinking they're sane and Boris/Nigel are eccentric

ok but that has to be benchmarked with the rest of the current eu on that model back then and they were positively in the political stone age back then apart from west Germany, holland and france...Portugal was under a dictatorship until 1974

They have been very clear that the issues which would mean a non conviction are lack of any hard evidence , Irish extradition rules etc. It is also pretty clear that the whole mess of the wrongful convictions and the reason they got away was entirely a British failure in intelligence and the law services not down to the EU. There is barely a country on the whole planet that would extradite people 40 years after a crime when there is no hard evidence and certainly there is no country that extradited without a request.

I think we should start a sweepstake on what the EU will get blamed for next that is nothing to do with them.

I reckon England now winning the World Cup since 66, the abuse of Welsh language speakers in the first half of the 20th century and the Lennon assassination will be next to be blamed on the EU.

But it's gold the EU is to blame for not extraditing people where there is no hard evidence , so no prospect of conviction, where the extradition laws from the time which apply were pre EU and where extradition hasn't even been requested .

If you want anyone to have a go at over the fact murderers went free do and look at the West Midlands police

I have never forgiven the EU over 1066. Two invasions in a week and they never said a word.Shambles.

If the EU presses ahead with fines for Ireland because we essentially voted against consumption based water charges then it might mark the beginning of a serious Ire-X-it campaign in Ireland. As I keep saying they don't understand us at all and they are poking us with sticks a bit too often for there not to be a backlash. I don't think they even realize how arrogant they appear.

Here's to the UK giving them enough of a fright to start to rethink their bullying nature. I though the whole point was to get us all to get along.

I'd just like to clear this up and acknowledge Tim of the Oak and Ealingblue2 for recognising what was being said

Two things:

1. These are my views and not the views if the Brexiters per se.

2. I did not or do not blame the EU for the IRA. I merely questioned why when both Ireland and the UK who are in the EU, Ireland can refuse an extradition request if under EU law they should be extradited?

Now take issue if you want or must but if the Coroner decides to re-open the enquiry then it is not going to be able to be executed correctly if these people cannot be questioned.

Sadly with Scotland being the way Scotland is and Corbyn being at the helm of the Labour Party I cannot see them getting anywhere near No.10. I appreciate others may disagree but in reality that is the way it will be.

Whoa...i'm against war myself mate, but i'd never disrespect any serviceman or woman if they've never been convicted of malpractice or abuse whilst in the service. It's a job I once thought I could do until reality gave me a firm slap in the face, so i've got huge respect for those that do, especially those who lost their lives as a result of it.

Hate the war, not the soldier.
