Racist incidents on the rise?

This one always troubles me with the Leave vote - have immigrants taken all the jobs? Really? We have a rising population and falling unemployment rates plus the largest number of people in work ever. I don't know the detailed numbers but those facts together make me think there's as much to blame those who haven't got jobs who are sat there on benefits bleating about immigrants taking jobs and benefits as there is blame on any immigrants.

And in the same report it was stated that there has been no increase in reported hate crime in manchester or in london. Thats reported to the police. There is in increase reported on a website but they didn't name the website.
So as I said the other day, we shouldn't be looking for more bad, we should be promoting good. We should be condemning these incidents when and if they happen but we should even more loudly be setting the tone that Brexit was not a license for anyone to express their racism and was not about racism and those on the leave side should be the loudest condemning any reported incidents of racism. Own the tone. give no breathing space to anyone who might want to claim otherwise.

Ha. Bit late for that now. The whole damn thing was built on mobilizing the right wing racist vote in Britain.

Amongst friends, absolutely, but when you mention it to a stranger, people are slightly guarded I'd say. They'll express a view, but I'm bloody sure they choose their words carefully (unless you're mixing it with the more extreme of society).

I'm in Leeds much of the time so you could be right about extremes! I hang about with a few Siekhs and like you say a few people are a bit worried when they mention say ISIS or Al Qaeda. Their response is often we've been fighting them for hundreds of years.

Quite so. They are often doing jobs that locals simply wouldn't get out of bed for. Literally. For those old enough to remember, back in the 50's and onwards, prior to joining the EEC, we essentially had to import people from the West Indies and south Asia to do the jobs that our lot still won't do.
There must have been some idyllic period that these people remember, when everyone was Anglo-Saxon, and there were no Johnny Foreigners ruining our lives (in poorly defined and unspecified ways). Possibly back before the Norman Conquest. Certainly not in the lifetime of most people alive today. And certainly not if you were brought up in South Manchester.

Not to worry. You can pick one up in the next UKIP newsletter.

But everytime a thread is opened discussing benefits the left tell us that all these people don't want to sit on their arse but society has let them down and there aren't jobs out there, it seems some like to change their story to fit their agenda

I'll say it then. Of course there were probably some people who hold racist views that voted to leave the EU. But there might have been some racists who voted to remain for other reasons. There might have been some paedophiles, criminals or drug dealers, who need the free market or free movement to move drugs or carry out other criminal activities.

Some of your analogies have been so wide of the mark tonight.

Colin, you're a super intelligent guy. You and some of the other outers on here have made stronger arguements to leave than any of the politicians I've heard. But I really don't understand this defensiveness of how the vote was run. There was a continuous vindictive and malicious campaign from two right wing media outlets that in my opinion there is little doubt they played the biggest role in winning this referendum. The Sun and the Dail 'Fail' are derided day in and day out on this forum, labelled as racist outlets that print lies and brainwash people. I'm pretty adamant that the very same intelligent people that have argued the leave case on here are some of the people that have slagged off these newspapers on this forum. And yet you can't see the correlation between this victory and the campaign that was run by those papers. What's the audience reach of those two papers on a weekly basis? 20-25 million people? What would be the demographic of the readership and does that relate to the demographic of the Leave voters?

weren't the Anglo - Saxons Germanic tribes who came here - so the golden era must have been after the Romans left and before the Anglo - Saxons got here - quick on line look seems to indicate the Romans left @ 410 AD and the Anglo - Saxons were here by 500 AD. Wasn't a long golden age was it Lol???

Maybe a golden fortnight !!

Well carry on being amazed. I didn't like either campaign but neither had any influence on my vote and I certainly wasn't going to change it or abstain because of that.

Oh that's alright then. You didn't like the racist xenophobic campaign run by the leavers, even if you did vote alongside them for your own personal self interest.

I'm not white either. So I have an opinion and I would if I was white. Your point is?

My point is clear and has been since the first time I had to defend it in this thread. If you voted to "leave" you stood shoulder to shoulder with some of the most racist and bigoted voices in Europe.

Come on man, that's not at all what he said.
He believed leaving was the right vote for the nation, regardless of what racists may also think.

I vote for less monitoring of the the population, but I don't support terrorism.

I voted remain, he voted leave, but no way on earth should the views of racists be allowed to influence his vote.

shoulder to shoulder! ha. It was a binary choice, I can assure you there were plenty of racist bigots who voted remain.

Did our WWII veterans stand shoulder to shoulder with Stalinism?
Do all football supporters stand shoulder to shoulder with hooligans?

TBH, the idyllic time was just after the end of the last ice age; there was nobody here!
