At club level I'd agree. Do you think he consistently shows the same form for country?

Risk of thread derailment here, but I think it's a misconception that Messi isn't regularly great for Argentina. Is he as good as he is for Barca? No... he trains with Barca 5 days a week and meets with Argentina 5 times a year. Same goes for most players. He wasn't exactly a shrinking violet for his national team, though. They're just unfortunate not to win some crucial finals, he doesn't speak out on political issues (which is basically a national pastime), and he's stuck with the decision he made to move to Europe at a young age -- all of which has caused him to be a much-publicized & divisive figure in his homeland.

Thought pogba had a quiet game nice bit of trickery for the second and a show boating shot, kroos on the other hand ran the midfield and controlled the game
See, I don't get this. People seem to think that having lots of passes means controlling a game. It doesn't. Kroos (and Germany) had lots of possession but absolutely no incisiveness or cutting edge. France were extremely comfortable with the tempo, they countered when they needed to, they slowed the game down when they needed to, and they defended well when they needed to. To me, that is controlling the game, and the France midfield did it much better than Kroos or any of the Germany midfielder. Hundreds of horizontal passes with no cutting edge isn't controlling anything.

I remember having the same discussion when City played Juve in the CL and some people here were saying that City controlled the match, despite Juve being completely comfortable at all times.

I believe this is the general consensus. Undeniably Pogba is an explosive player but he can be isolated given the right approach. Today when France was pressed deep we hardly see Pogba being involve d in trying to break away from Germany's pressing.

With Kroos, his passing was generally fast and accurate. Sometimes he takes on players and weaves into the box showing glimpses of technicality that he rather put aside in favour of effective simplicity.

I have seen absolutely nothing in the whole tournament to justify a 100m price tag
Much overpriced.

There was a lot of incisiveness actually but Germany had poor finishing. Open headers, balls in front of goal. They just lacked finishing.

I'd be happy if we had that movement all over the field because I could see our players get in the end of those plays.

All in the spirit of the sport, but we watched completely different games. I thought Germany could've scored 5 in there, didn't feel like France were comfortable absorbing the pressure in the slightest until the second half eased tensions.

Not just this tournament either.

He's a very good player, there's no doubt about it. 100 million? Not a fucking chance!
Those players win you trophies. Mangala, Otamendi and Sterling cost over £100m. Could all be surplus to requirements after this window. I know which strategy I prefer.

The game just passed him by today for the most part until his break on the counter that was foiled and his contribution to the second goal. An explosive player after 2-0 up, but was really lost trying to hold play when pressed. Happened more than once before. So I'm not that worried.

Let's judge them after a season with Pep first.

Agree. Quality rather than quantity, but its bit of a mess this current squad. So we probably can't afford to make huge signing considering other needs.

Agree. Dechamps even knew that as to why he took Payet out and put Kante in. I don't think Pogba works well in a 2 man midfield. He is always more effective when he has licence to move forward. It would be interesting if he went to the Rags and Maureen put him in a 2.

Germany barely had a shot until they went 2-0 down and threw everybody forward in desperation. Then they had a few headers and goal mouth scrambles (and Kimmich's great shot). They never really threatened at all until then.

Fair enough. If you got "never really threatened" out of Germany's performance -- particularly the 13th minute to the 45th -- then we can toss this one in the bin of unreconcilable internet disagreements. I still like you.
