Labour / Tory Party meltdown Referendum fallout

The Prime Minister can call a general election at any time up to 5 years after the previous one so I don't understand your point that she can't.

Sadly not anymore.

the rise in membership is unheralded in British politics & this is what frightens the life out of the "establishment" & their media propaganda machine

Wibble

If its the only choice the electorate will make, and the only choice they will vote for, then you can challenge it if you like, but only the ballot box will give you an answer. That answer for the last 40 years has been either the Tories or new Labour.

Very well said.

Choice is meaningless if there are only two dishes on the menu that are indistinguishable.

Political parties are not like football teams, who, if they're losing, change their tactics. Parties stand for something, they can bend with the wind and try and change the "conversation" but if they stray too far from what they stand for they cease to exist. Labour is going through that now, this really is an existential moment.

You have to understand, the Blairite PLP hate Corbyn not because he can't win a general election but because he might.

That would be a real shame. I think it's good that there is a left wing Labour Party. I just think the leader should have some semblance of charisma or he/she will never get their message across to the voters.

He is right, and the sooner his day of reckoning comes, for me, the better. Then we can finally get shot of the prick.

tbf who can replace him with any credibility at present? Pratically the whole PLP is tainted and a dead duck, also if rumours are true this alister campbell led take back labour initiative of the last few weeks/months has seen right wing labour harassing clp members just like in the late 90's and dodgy voting patterns at meetings or motions being ignored as happened in bristol last week where the clp vote of confidence in corbyn by 90% was called ilegitimate by clp chair and local MP causing chaos in the meeting. The left of the party and the right are as hard faced and arsey as each other. unfortunately the centerists are actually few and far between in the membership and PLP

The Labour party really needs to make a choice, either become a party that the majority want to vote for or become a perennial protest movement I suspect that the current leader never expected to be in this position and is more comfortable leading a protest movement, it's a crying shame really because it's inflicting years more of the Tories on us

Eagle or Corbyn - it's like voting for the tallest dwarf in the village!

She has no credibility and a very annoying voice, he is more interested i opposing than leading an opposition party

And now some of Corbyn's cronies (allegedly) have bricked her constituency office Windows, not going very well for Ange.

Interesting new you gov poll of 1221 trade union members:-

63% think Corbyn is doing a bad job as leader
76% think it is unlikely he would ever become PM
69% think it was unlikely Labour would win the next general election if Corbyn was leading it.

Remind me again who runs the you.gov polls

Yep a brick has been put through her constituency office probably either some SWP tosser or one of Campbells cruisaders,(though I favour the first one being true) allegedly both sets are setting up fake twitter accounts to abuse their own people to smear the other side, totally bizzare, childish and unbecoming of politics in the modern age, the labour party is like it's own worst enemy on both sides.

Maybe they could have a third way in the Labour movement, something genuinely in the centre of both factions. The split would temporarily kill the party off as its split in three but amidst the madness they could be seen as the sanest option, probably a pipe dream but I think they are well and truly f**ked if they continue as they are.

The best thing that could happen is that we get more, smaller parties. The right wing of the Tories go to UKIP, the centre-right of Labour form a new centre-left party plus there's still the Lib-Dems. Maybe the hard and soft left even split.

That will increase the pressure for some sort of PR and will mean permanent coalition governments.

I think a split will happen the right side of the party have had power for 20 yrs and don't want to lose it while some left left wing see this time as a way to influence again.
