Some of our fans are just ridiculous. We are finally at a place as a club where money is no object, we are signing probably the most talented English CB since camel gob and all they can go on about is the cost. I look forward to them moaning about it all next season as well.

Bet some of them were near on suicidal when we spent £6m on Samaras.

Say the price doesn't matter all you like but it's not true, it matters like I said before, FFP is still around, we should also learn from what happened with Sterling(it didn't help Mangala when he arrived but he seemed to get off light compared to Sterling)... the truth is nobody else including the press agrees with Everton's evaluation(even Everton fans are saying it) he will get the Sterling treatment and while it's true not all players react the same to that kind of pressure he's already had a loss of form with Everton last season I thought, so we can't be too confident that he thrives under it either. Also we'll have Bluemooners pulling their hair out in the anti-city agenda threads as the press will have plenty of ammo to come gunning for us all season, which will be a shame because the press so far on our signings so far has been positive for once.

The club obviously don't quite value him at the price Everton do or they would have paid it already but they do want the player. We might end up having to pay it(I expect it will be just under £50m with bonus related addon's) but shut up being spoiled brats wanting it "now now now...", we're talking about trying to save millions of quids ere fellas. Also please stop saying "meh the Sheik has loads of money we can have what we want"(no bloody wonder we get stick with pearls of wisdom like that being thrown out there) we're approaching a point where we can be self sustaining while still competing for the players we need why ruin the hard work it's taken to get to that point by being careless... and if we are going blow a load of cash on anyone let it be a marquee signing that's more of a sure thing(even those can flop sometimes) preferably an attacker.

How much do you suggest we spend then on a top CB? Your saying hes a waste of money without saying who is potentially better.

United have just signed Bailley for £30m who hasn't anywhere near the same experience as Stones either in a top league or internationally.

The thing is it isn't your money-the club can afford it so whats the problem?

I have no problem with us spending 50m as long as it improves the first team or atleast is proven to be good. We are NOT talking about a top CB here. Only potential to be good. How confident you feel of lining up with Stones plus 1 of our existing CBs for the upcoming season? Just imagine Ibrahimovic against Stones.

Which means there's no such thing as a sure thing :)

Pep Guardiola turned Jerome fucking Boateng into arguably the best CB in football. We all were treated to that fella, he was dire his entire time here. We value Stones because of his unusual combination of size and touch. There are remarkably few players like that around and you don't need me to tell you how many of them are English. The press and even the Everton fans can spend as much time as they want focusing on errors he has made and they'll all be missing the point entirely. It's really easy to say "buying potential" when talking about any young player, but we're not "buying potential" in the sense that this player has already got some WC attributes that we as a team are highly likely to prioritize. His defensive positioning and technique will need work, without a doubt. In the meantime, if his presence means we stop having to watch half our midfield coming deep to receive the ball or watch our CBs lump hopeless long balls into touch then he can concede 10 more goals than Winston Reid or Huth or whomever because he'll probably contribute to 20. Just think Boateng and Pique. We need our version.

Agreed what happened last time we paid that kind of money on English potential? I think Sterling will make it personally(I was one of the people saying we shouldn't pay it because it was too soon... ended up defending him against the people who were saying money was no object who quickly turned on him) but there's no denying the first season was a bit disappointing due to the pressure that came with it. He was good in the CL though nobody can deny he showed a lot of promise there and when City were playing well so did he.

Pep is great but he's not a magician, he also has a long long list of things we're all expecting him to sort out(including a long list of players that need his guidance)... he's going to have so much on his plate among which adapting to a new league I don't think some of you realize there's only so much we can expect in his first season.

The price is hefty, but his qualities are fundamental to Pep's style, get him. Not to mention he can play right back too.

He was woeful last season, Evertons defence in general was though to be fair. Has the qualities Pep likes so hopefully with that coaching he becomes as good as everyone thinks

What a fucking stupid post, Mourinho wanted him , Pep wants him and by all accounts Barca wanted him, last season he was average, the season before that he was very very good, ball playing CB's like him are as rare as rocking horse shit, hes in the Pique mould-who incidentally flourished under Pep having returned there from United.

Abromovich couldnt even score against chicken shit defenders in the European Championships, did nothing of note against the better teams in last years and this years CL so what the fuck that's got to do with Stones Ive no idea.

Go and lie down, wipe your fanny and put some pan pipe music on.

Excessively expensive, if true.

Still, Pep rates him highly and he will be an important part of the side for years to come. Get it done.

Unfortunately what they will do is to carry on with that moaning changing it into a criticism of the player through out the season. These are the people who boo at our own players.

Maybe he can do it all though who knows, wouldn't want him burning himself out with everything that needs doing it's a bigger job than Bayern that's for sure.
