John Stones

This one again (sigh). Paying massive prices for players who are still a work in progress puts big pressure on them and the media will remind us of that around 20x a week. Is that ringing any bells?

I agree with that to an extent. If we had bought Sterling for 20m, he would have more than likely performed well last season.

The media, pundits, fans were on his back from day one he's been crucified ever since. The same could happen to Stones.

Sooner it's done the better. Far too many on Blues on here are too arsed about what their mates think. If Pep thinks he's worthy of building a team around then that's fine by me.

I'm not bothered about the fee, what I'm more bothered about is how the player will react to it. He will be the worlds most expensive defender, that is a huge weight on his shoulders before he's kicked a ball in a city shirt. It's all down to John Stones to show us he has the mentality to get past the price tag and prove everyone else wrong and deliver high quality performances in a city shirt.

If we do end up paying around 50m for Stones, I hope we dont baulk at paying 60-65m for Aubameyang and the likes.

Pogba at 100m now seems quite a reasonable deal now.

well I'm one of the few moaners on the £50m. But it's never about the price being too expensive. It's about putting the best players in a team of 11 and we only have that chance each transfer window. I've mentioned it a few times here that I'd prefer an initial fee + performance payment deal, just in case if we end up with a £40m Mangala. I really don't care if we spend 100m on Stones if he is the solution to our problem, but I'm a bit wary of his defensive stats which is ridden with errors and dearth of clean sheets. I remember well how Aguero scored from a header when Stones with his physical presence should be more aware of the player in front of him, how he was beat by Sterling to put in a cross that resulted in our goal. And that is just one game. I'm just saying £50m should be a defender who can make even our attacking players quiet. I saw that in Bonucci and Kompany, but not Stones at the moment.

Irregardless, if we do buy him for £50m I don't have any issue with the fee as long as he keeps clean sheets. The glimmer of hope is Pep and I think he has what it takes to make a £50m defender.

£53M..... lol! Would ask where the scouts are regarding English players but doesn't matter as the prices don't reflect the ability at all. Still happy to see him here, believe he can become a great CB under Pep

I still cant get my head round why people think we can get stones cheap. Posting oh my god 50m hes english hes young he plays for a premiership team andy carol is 35m pogba is 100m moussa is 35m troy deany 40m. The market is fucked so yes its a lot of money but thats normal these days sadly.

and barca wanted him and probably a host of other top clubs.

Fucking better be now! In a moment of excitement after I'd heard about the Aguero/Kelechi tweets I went in to the next office and bet £50 with an Evertonian colleague that he'd be officially ours by the time work finishes on Friday @ 4.30pm

If i'm not mistaken,I might not be so sure though, but all our signings this summer has been on a Friday at least the Gundogan and Nolito signing. I might be wrong, someone else might know if its true or not. If it is, then Stones can be this Friday.

Fingers crossed for you then mate! To be fair the forum needs a signing to calm it down! Lol

I for one am happy enough with this deal. Clearly we're overpaying based off of his last season but this is an Everton who don't have to sell & who now have money, we were always going to have to spend big to get him.

Can see him being a success if Pep gets the team well oiled the way he wants. Reduces our average age, and potentially gives us a CB for the next 10 years.

Won't count my chickens until I see its official but sounds promising.

Before the Euros Ferdinand rang into talksport or 5live can't remember which to basically say anyone bashing Stones is clueless! Said something along the lines of him being an amazing player!
Feels wrong agreeing with Ferdinand but I do on this one!

He's not the finished article but the fact that both Guardiola and Mourinho like him, speaks volumes, both top managers but polar opposites in terms of how there teams set up yet both have been willing to spend huge money on him!
I bet the camel gobbed, piss test avoiding, powder sniffer changes his tune when signs for us. Once a c*** always a c***
