It's hard not to insult someone who wants to take your civil liberties away and is advocating a V for Vendetta society. We should be threatening to ban them instead of the people who find their ideas repugnant. Some of the comments on here would find sympathy with the proponents of Sharia law, which has to be the ultimate irony.

But the focus on preventing terror needs to be upped imo. It would come at an expense of freedoms though. It's what the terrorists want but that's just unfortunate.

That is scary beyond belief.

When I said house to house I meant localized. For example a section of Paris. But I don't know what the security forces require other than I presume they want more people, more technology, more freedom from some laws that restrict them and more freedom from protests because they are infringing on our current rights.

As I said way back it's a danger to give them too much trust but I wonder if we have to.

Why? Why do we have to? They can already read our emails, listen to our phone calls, read our texts, see our web history.

There are some scary posts in this thread. Some people need to read/watch V for Vendetta to see how very close we are to becoming that scary future.

Nice is a tragedy and my thoughts are with them, but to start thinking we need to give more power to the corrupt governments in our countries and expect that they will diligently use these powers to only use them on dangerous suspects is laughable. Give them an inch and they'll take a yard.

A bit depressing if it happened, but terrorism has been around for millenia and life has gone on, people want to be safe, but they also want freedom, the chances of a police state set up to protect the populous cannot be dismissed, but I think we are not quite at that stage.
