David Silva

Seen a few joint city and united joint best 11 things lately and he didn't feature in many of them ,neither did zlatan for that matter.
Fans of other teams don't rate him as highly as we do .

He's coming off the back of a difficult, injury hit season which explains why people have forgotten about him. Every rag I know thinks he's brilliant.

He's not a flashy attention seeker seen in the press flaunting his wealth, mouthing off about anything or cosying up with celebs but isn't that one of the things we love about him? He's also a City player he'd have to be Messi level to get the recognition he deserves. I think Spanish football fans are quite fond of him and know his qualities though surely?

I'm excited to see him play in a Pep team, let them underestimate him it works in his favor anyway.

The Spanish love him

I just want Silva to have a good season where he influences the flow of the game rather than floating on the periphery, constantly berating the referee when he thinks he's been fouled.
Also, I don't want to read excuses about recurring niggles and injuries. Nobody's doubting that he ranks alongside the all time City greats, but he was poor last season and every player has a shelf life.

He berates the referee because he gets the shit kicked out of his ankles every single game yet rarely wins a foul. I'm pissed off about that so it's no surprise he is.

They're not excuses. He is targeted in every single game and teams often take turns to clatter him so they don't get a player sent off.

It looks like you are.

I'll use this as my lead up. Where do you guys see Silva being used this year? I'm not sure I would find a spot for him in my 11.

I've always thought he's played in quite long patches since he's been at city from being the best midfielder in the world to bang average, hopefully last season can be put down to his ankle injury and been played when he shouldn't.
I like Silva but its funny he's never picked up any city player of the year awards voted for by fans or players but won loads of player of the month.
Not so sure weather he will be a starter next season or if his creative role will go to debruyne.another patchy player
de Bruyne can have one good game then the very next game a bad one, like you say, Silva looks great for months then dips for a month. Players are weird aren't they?

A fit and in form Silva would be a definite starter for me. He was great in the few weeks of last season and (iirc) he was was on international duty.

His relatively low goal output would not be an issue if we have Kun fit and the wide forwards chip in with a decent amount of goals.

Depends on the formation from the game today can only see him as a number 10

For me KDB needs to be the 10 as often as possible and I'm not sure I like seeing silva as a wing. You think he'd be a good fit as a cm? I'm not so sure.

You'd put him at AM and KDB out wide? You fine with Silva as wing? What do you think of him in a cm role? It's weird for me because I know he's class but I can't pinpoint what to do with him generally. I understand the squad rotates but where does he play in the big games? It's obviously a tough question but I'm starting to think of places for him to play and I'm seeing better options there. I'm wondering if I'm missing something or...he might have to take a diminished role. Feels blasphemous even bringing it up. It's probably a total non issue because we play so many games and I'm curious what other people are thinking.

Not a cm for me kdb cannot play every game but I'm expecting a lot of competition for that number 10 spot

I think one of the many failings of the last guy was trying to shoehorn kdb, toure and silva into the same team, I'm hoping toure is mainly benched and kdb and silva scrap it out and rotate

Yeah, don't mention the very real injuries he suffers and the kicks he gets every week. That's just making excuses..

The Silva/KDB choice is difficult and it is hard to look past KDB because of his goal output. If both of them were to play I would put David central and Kev wide even though it is not his best position - his delivery of crosses is probably the best in the squad so he would not be wasted there.

In reality there will be so many games that they will both get to play centrally a lot and if anyone can come up with a system that can allow them to play in the same team it is Pep. Silva played so well in the false 9 role when Kun was out that I would almost be tempted to go with that system when Kun needs a rest.

I cannot wait for the season to start - feel like a kid again!

Yeah it is strange other players have good games, bad games but Silva puts a good run of world class performances on then an equally long run of poor games in which he dosnt seem to be droppable .
The only other player I've seen play in such extremes was negrado who I thought was a good a striker as I've ever seen who went on to be useless even after injury and at valencia

It's going to be interesting for sure, we are not used to a manager willing to make a lot of changes to formation and personel, there will be a lot of head scratching going on

I think you're possibly overlooking the 4 seasons where Silva had a 4 season long run of good games?

It was a fucking ridiculous point made worse by his comparison to Negredo.
He was poor by his standards last season but you'd think he'd gone all Fernando Torres reading this thread.

I was just waiting for the "KDB has to play because he's bigger goal threat" post, any conversation about Silva has that posted within about 5 minutes. The mind boggles, I genuinely think some people either don't watch the games or just don't really understand what is going on.
