John Stones

I do see similarities between City and Everton but lets get it straight they never wished us well, they have been bitter towards City fans(evident every time we face them, always excuses or crowd trouble and accusations of mistreatment which we rarely have) saying much of the same rubbish Rags and Dippers spout about our club since the takeover. Will be a bit ironic now that they have a billionaire benefactor on board(so do Newcastle btw) to see them getting giddy about it but as I've said before there were a dozen clubs with that same thing last season in the PL and I don't think he's near the top of that list in terms of wealth either plus he only owns 49.9%. It will definitely help(they can buy and keep hold of players to their content now) but I think some of them may need to reign their expectations in a bit. I hope they knock Liverpool and United down a bit more but I'm not wishing them too much good fortune because I don't think they would do the same, some of our fans are a bit naive they don't even seem to think Liverpool fans hate us.

Won't lose any sleep if we don't get him

He may turn into the best defender in the world but £50m is a lot for potential and every time I've seen him live I've wondered what all the fuss is about

I think efc blue is an OK poster on another teams forum and I quite like the fact we can always get tickets for Everton v city as it gives my lad the closest thing to going to watch a game at Maine road as he was too young to go

Same here not bothered either way, but when I've watched him play I always thought cut out the mistakes and he could be a world class players, just because of how he defends reads the game plus he is so composed on the ball.

More like Hyde Road :)
I honestly don't know with its wooden seats wooden floor and death trap concourse s how it gets a safety certificate.
But it feels like going to a proper football ground, not all sanitised and cheesy like it does at city sometimes

What we cant forget is that we allowed more goals this year than at any time since the 2009-10 season and we cant put all the blame on a manager. If we get Stones or not, we are going to need an upgrade in the middle to implement to type of football Pep wants to play. Pep is the best manager in the world but not a magician. With the potential signings of Sane, Jesus and Moreno we might have sorted out our striker/winger needs for the next 5years but time now to look at the back 4. I see Stones as the long term answer under Pep which is why I'm hoping we can come to an agreement with Everton.

Because 12 months is a long time and any human being would accept an extra £2,600,000 over that period.

The point is if Everton keep Stones he would be a fool to sign a contract for more wages this year. Even if he lost out on 2.6m for 1 year he would get that back in a signing on fee and over the long term he would have the potential to earn loads more at a club that is more likely to have success than his current club. So as I say yes Everton hold a strong hand at the moment but that hand will get weaker and weaker. As I say look at James Milner as an example

So he only has 2 seasons left on his contract and he's twice expressed a desire to move to a bigger club?(yes Chelsea and City are considered bigger at present in terms of current stature, recent success and worldwide prominence there's no arguing with that) They better make the best out of these next 2 seasons then or £40m is a lot of money to pass up out of pride, doesn't look like he will be signing a new one with them.

I don't expect we'll have a conclusion on it any time soon(bored of it already) but I don't mind if we walk away on this deal, I hope they don't leave it too late to find an alternative though.

Agree with the rest of the post but that is the exact thing I would be blaming the manager for. We had the same back 4 as the previous season and added Otamendi to the mix as well. No way should it have been breaking the goals for most goals conceded.

Seen the reports about Everton not budging on their asking price after our 'take it or leave it offer', on the basis that we did exactly the same with the dippers over Sterling last summer, and still came back once our bluff was called.

Said it last summer, these stupid bluffs only cost you in the long run.

Genuinely thought this last night when I saw the report about our 'take it or leave it' offer for Stones last night.

And so it happens Everton have learnt from Txiki's empty bluff last year, and are calling it over Stones now.

Really quite predictable. Embarrassing really, plain amateur.

Going to get taken over a barrel again for another overrated young English player from a scouse club.

But we didn't pay it for Sterling.

What if we walk away though?

We did.

If you remember we made a 'take it or leave it' offer of £40m +£4m add ons IIRC, the dippers briefed the press on every bid and rejected that 'take it or leave it' offer outright. And reiterated the £50m fee.

Then we came back a couple of weeks later with the final bid of £44m + £5m in add ons. Our bluff was called and the dippers more or less got their asking price.
