John Stones

Stones has to leave Everton. He is under so much scrutiny there because he likes to stay composed on the ball and play his way out of trouble. The problem is, he can pass the ball to a team mate but they'll no doubt lump it forward in hit and hope style and as Pep's already said, it then comes back even quicker and you're out of position.

He wants defenders who are comfortable on the ball and therefore control the game. Those who believe Pep is purely attack minded are wrong. The reason he wants ball playing defenders is so they can ensure the side is less likely to concede by playing aimless balls forward which can leave the team out of position. With Laporte making the decision to extend his contract, we'll do all we can to get Stones - he's very much a Pique style defender and that's exactly what Pep will want.
Hasn't he already told Everton he wants to leave for City? Surely that should make them drop their asking price a little bit so that they don't have an unhappy player on their team. I dont understand whats so hard in meeting halfway. We want to pay 40, they want 50, lets do 45! Maybe this is done but its the particulars that are being sorted out similar to Sane's deal with performance incentives.

For me, the factv that he has told Everton he wants to leave doesn,t weaken their position. They know we want him, so will hang out for their valuation of him

Surely Everton must know that if he is forced to stay he will be unhappy at the club; there is a chance he will play poorly therefore losing value on him. There's very little point keeping a player at a club when he is unhappy and I'm sure tixi knows he has this advantage

He wanted to leave last year was refused

Played shite all season

Price goes up

Not a chance we want to take in not getting him this window

His price will be Pogba premium by next year

I'm sure Everton realize that he is a professional and will give 100% regardless.
We will buy him and it won't matter one bit what we pay for him.

If you have something you dont want to sell, but the player and the buyerr are keen, you will put a high valuation on it. The fact we are negotiating with Everton, for me weakens our position.

But in the same circumstances with another club it would be stronger? You are saying Everton behave irrationally? Or they are more rational than other parties?

EFC are in a lose lose situation now because of their inertia.
1) Sell Stones - no time to replace him
2) Keep him - retain an unsettled player who will most likely play like he did last season and they'll lose him next year when he'll have 2 years left on his contract.

I think they will stick to their guns. Don't know what we will do. We don't need to solve every playing issue this window/season. We could come back again in 12 months when he'll have 2 years left on his contract. In the meantime someone within the club may have taken the opportunity. Kompany may have recovered. It's not like anyone else is going to buy him at £50m.

We've already replaced Navas and Nasri though. And we can't register more players but we can replace them on the list. That leaves them (and their agents) the job of finding a new club or they can just not play, none of them are going to do that regardless of what wages they're on. (and yes I remember we did have one once although I'm damned if I can remember his name)

BTW, just because they're still here doesn't mean that no one wants them. There's lots of very good players still at their clubs who may move before the window closes, that doesn't make them difficult to move. does it?
Jovetic?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Chelsea bid£40 million last season and Everton wanted 50 didn't they?

It seemed to effect him this season as at times he was poor after the saga last season with Chelsea; don't think it has anything to do with professionalism really, if you're not 100% mentally focused your performance will suffer, it's just human nature

We'll see I guess

The only thing I will say is that Barcelona would always used to low ball for a player in this situation and eventually the player would become so unsettled that the selling club were backed into a corner and eventually had to sell up

Not saying it will happen in this case but it's certainly possible

I think the no time to find a replacement is a bit of a red herring as they have hardly been active despite more money and a new owner. I think they will hold out for what they want as I see this year as a transition for their new owners to see what is what.

Still didn't go down the and the point is no matter how he plays the price will not fall

Not sure how anyone can say why his performance suffered.
Surely if he was that affected by it he would be heading to either chelsea or maureen, depending on why he wanted to go to chelsea in the first place.
I would say he wasn't that bothered and he just had a dip in form.

City are playing a waiting game now, and waiting for Everton to flinch. We've tablled 2 bids from what I understand, and Everton are pushing for better terms on the cash bid.

He's agreed to come, they've agreed to sell him, so it's down to money.

Everton don't want him there next season (you can't have a player constantly asking to move), and they've already started to shop around for his replacement.

This will happen. It will either happen swiftly, or could drag on into the new season..... All depends on who blinks first.

Txiki's strategy ! it seemingly worked for Leroy...saved a few sterling...suppose we are repeating the same thing
