Where is @Paul Lake's Left Knee? He is conspicuous by his absence from this thread.
My money is on him being drunk and asleep in a kebab shop in the environs of Edgbaston...

Watching the highlights now. Just how disappointing today is will be calculated tomorrow :-/

I reckon 297 is an ok score, especially with their batting and our bowling options.

Ali batted well today. He's wasted at 8 and when he plays there he plays like a no.8 that thinks he has a license to just go out and have a whack. He only moved up one place today but his attitude and shot selection improved dramatically.

Terrible from Vince to get out like that but it was actually brilliant tactics from the Pakistan bowler and captain. A few minutes earlier they were talking about how he was pushing at the ball in defence outside the off stump so they set the field accordingly and ended up getting him with what would normally be a poor ball. Great stuff.
 
As well as Pakistan have played our bowling been fucking garbage and proves again we need a leg spinner or someone who can actually bowl 90+ mph constantly! Broad and fin been worst of the 2 also Balance is the worse fielder I've seen since Tufnul
 
Jimmy getting taken to task by the panel for showing disrespect to the umpire. The bits I've seen don't do him any favours, to be honest. Snatching his cap petulantly and yapping away to the umpire, who was spot on re him running down the strip. He may well be getting invited for a little chat with the referee.

*edit* looks like he might have just apologized to the umpire.

His injury has probabaly caused a downturn in pace, but he's spraying it all over the shop.
Think it's a tactic to stop them hitting him for 4 ;-)
 
There were so many options available to England for this test and I didn't really like the decision to bring back Finn. He's gradually got worse all summer and he needs another stint out of the limelight. Broad was terrible today, as bad as I've seen him bowl in a long time. This is where Cook needs to get some balls and take the ball off Broad or Anderson if it's not working. Woakes was again the pick of the bowlers but he's always waiting and waiting to be given a chance. He let that partnership run and run because they weren't going at a quick rate but there's so much time left in the game that Pakistan have absolutely done the right thing. Full credit to them for applying themselves much better but that was a bad day for England. Cook really needs to learn to try something different from time to time.
 
So; 311 ahead, with five wickets in hand and Moeen and Johnny well set. What's the plan going into day 5? Perhaps have a bit of a blast for 30-45 minutes and try to get the lead up to 350-375. Then see if we can make the Pakistani lads a bit jittery. Excellent partnership between the two fellas currently out in the middle, both gone past their half centuries. And in fairly quick time as well. I suppose the smart money will be going on the draw.

No chance of Cook being brave/foolish (delete as per taste!) and declaring overnight? Give Pakistan a tempting target? Yes, it's risky as 320 in 90 overs is eminently gettable. But if they wait until 10 overs (+2) have gone, I'm not sure Pakistan would even try to chase, say, 360 in 78 overs. They'd drop anchor and try to block the day out, wouldn't they?

A brave captain would declare overnight but cook wont, and neither would misbah if he had the option, if they play 10 overs, pakistan will only have one newball to survive and this pitch is still a belter to bat on
