Only positives from today...Sterling looked like he had his confidence back and Delph's workrate was excellent! Was worried Delph might struggle but has really shown fight and hunger since Pep arrived...great to see!

Now the negatives...

If we go into the season without atleast 1 new fullback and a CB we got trouble! Been saying it all summer, in fact most of us have been saying it for 2 summer transfer windows now....

Anyone that thinks a new system will make some of these players, overnight more technically gifted and quicker on the ball will get a shock! In fact, Pep's system will only show up their weaknesses even more! 6 attacking player signings and no....let me say that again NO defenders signed with one week to go before the season is a BIG fail in our transfer dealings, especially when we knew these weaknesses even before the summer transfer window started....

We could almost copy and paste our concerns from last summer and use them now, nothing has changed!

yup...

he made the same mistake vs dortumd as well though...all i was pointing out though was that people are baling hart for the second goal when in reality it was tosin making the same mistake that he has previously made that caused the goal.....people don't want to blame the young lad so blame hart instead
How about his paper wrists for the 1st?

Kolarov ONLY player not substituted despite Denayer being there.... ok fair enough maybe Pep wants to loan him out , but surely this was a friendly and could have gone as a sub for kolarov

Is pep making a statement to Txiki , I want a CB now ! ( and maybe a GK to go with him too ?) which seems strange to make 6 days before the league starts

Just don't know what has to happen for us to get rid of Kolarov. I'm convinced if there was a nuclear war and all life on earth was wiped out he'd still turn up at the Etihad on Saturday to play.

I'm actually gutted what I just watched regardless if it's a friendly but fuck me that made me laugh. Proper cheered me up that. Ha

Did anyone see what Hamann was on about with the body language between Pep and Hart? I want Hart to stay but I hope he knows he will have to show a willingness to listen and to learn, he's a popular figure but by no means has any assurances unless he shows Pep what he wants.

The results this pre-season don't mean much 2 losses and one draw against good opposition(Bayern, BVB and Arsenal... compare that to most other teams pre-seasons) who seem further ahead than us in their preparations and that's without factoring in our team are learning a whole new system and philosophy. We've been tested very early in Pep's reign against some very good attack forces who know how to control possession and we haven't been walloped by any measure, in fact some of the goals conceded were gifts from mistakes due to inexperience. Pep will have wanted to learn more about our players in these games and I think he will have learned a lot, he knows what he's doing so lets all relax and focus on the differences we are noticing which will take time to perfect.

My one take from this match is that I think Willy will get the nod over Joe against Sunderland.

Holy shit, what are some of you lot on, it's a friendly with the most mixed up city side you could ever see, players getting run outs left right and centre, nowhere near our first 11, how the flying fuck can intelligent posters turn into complete fuckin morons,
I've read shit like he's finished, extend pre season, got to go, txixi out, it'll take months, we need 50 points etc etc etc, do me favour. Look at what it was and how many changes and think about Saturday and how we could line up.

Not bothered a bit though i was hoping we would pick the defensive combination who will play against sunderland, i cant see kolorov or fernando as our cb pairing.

I think Joes days may be numbered under pep and this may have been playing on his mind for quite some time and affected his game.
If that's pep's decision then we have to roll with it.

What about kasper?
Great with his feet and classed as home trained I think
Yep... Let's buy back a player we sold a few seasons ago for 10 times we sold him for!! Watch the media jump on that one!!!

i get the fact that this is a friendly but the business we have done which affects THIS season is not enough quality wise to make a serious threat 3-4 other clubs have had better windows and frankly look stronger

Who are the 3 or 4 clubs?

A useful friendly as I see it, it's never about the results in these games - it's about seeing what needs changing, & I feel this game did exactly that. Sadly would've been more useful 3-4 weeks ago given that we start the season in under a week. I'd much rather we have a game like this where our areas of weakness were highlighted, than get a lucky 3-1 win that sweeps the problems under the carpet.

Centre midfield & defence/keeper are clearly areas of weakness, especially when they're told to play this risky passing game from the back - we simply didn't have the personnel on the pitch today. I think Gundogan will make a big difference here, and it seems obvious why we're after Stones, throw on top of that a ball playing keeper & this tactic will likely go from looking like a significant weakness to something that could be one of our biggest strengths.

You are expecting Pep Guardiola not to have a team which passes out from the back ?

I'd give this season a miss if I was you.

he isn't saying that though is he...he is saying that without the players to play that way we will struggle....and we could well do so with the likes of kolorov/mangala/tosin zabba playing........

Kompany and sagna will be ok at it ...otto possibly.....

this is clearly why we are in for stones

Teams will push on us knowing that Pep will play like this ...if we have the players then fine...if we don't then Im not sure why he would continue to do so knowing it will cost us goals and lose us games

My hope is that the midfield options will be much better in competitive games and that this will help the playing out forth back as well

Ota injured I believe, mangala and Denyar must be feeling pretty despondent, imagine seeing kolorov and Fernando playing in your position

Exactly mate, fucking David Blunkett could work out Kolorov shouldn't even be on the pitch let alone at CB, he can't even mark a touch line position let alone one where you have to be strong on both sides.

Fernando should also be shown the door, bang average player.

Yaya is benefiting from losing some timber and at least he has the quality on the ball to give it a good crack under Pep.
