John Stones

Good signing, especially with the manager we've got as a tutor. Funnily enough, more than ever, I would love Vinny to get fit and stay that way, to bring this lad along, and take some of the heat off him. And a propos of that, let's cut this lad some slack, eh blues? We can't stop the media doing what they will do, but we can decide what we do, on this forum, on twitter, and most importantly, (much more importantly) at the Etihad. Personally, if there's any way round it, I'd like him not to be selected for Sunderland, or at least not in the starting line-up.

Sooooooo......for just another £40m we could have got the world's most sought after midfielder? Shite.........

A lot of money but he's only young so if he reaches his potential he will be worth every penny. Think we needed him after watching the game against arsenal the other day. Had a stinker of a season last year but it's over to Pep now, let's see what he can do with him

So Everton have essentially splashed the Stones cash on Williams and Bolasie. Oh wow. Anyways, delighted with him. Seemed genuinely happy to be here and can't wait to see him develop!

I don't take that much notice of last season. His head wasn't at Everton and he had Martinez (Pellegrini level chancer) coaching him. The best coach in the world is teaching him now. Anyone who doesn't think we need him needs to go and watch preseason again. Goalkicks at times were almost like giving away pens

As for the fee, I'd have been happy spending 40m on him, and was expecting to pay 45m, so not fussed about an extra few million, esp. considering we basically have a CB crisis on our hands. We probably could have haggled it down if we waited close to deadline day but we have important games right around the corner. Stones has all the ingredients for Pep to mould into one of the best in the world in his position.

The fan's job now is to not get on his back like the Everton lot did and sections already have with Sterling.

Just like with Mangala eh? Been shown no patience by many fans and the media alike.

Not really my point, as Mangala is/was never a ball playing defender like Stones. My point is less of the shouting for him to just hoof it into touch everytime he has the ball at his feet in a dangerous position. Yes he'll cost us some goals playing like he does, but he'll give us advantages in other areas players like Mangala and even Kompany wont. Still, from his interview he sounds very aware of how he plays football and thus I doubt he has any intention to abandon it, which will be greatly to our benefit.

Yep. Mangala has been slaughtered by quite a large section of our fans. As I've said countless times, our defence has been hung out to dry over the last two seasons. Not one of our central defenders has looked good for quite some time.
