Has put Manchester University on the map as the centre of the Physics world. To enrol for an astrophysical degree you need to have three A** in maths, physics and chemistry as minimum.

He's an excellent physicist and a wonderful populiser of science.
His podcast 'The Infinite Minkey Cage' is excellent and YouTube also has some great lectures of his.
He and Jim al-Khalili are the best things to happen to popular science since Carl Sagan passed away.
