Joe Hart (joined Torino on season long loan - Official)

Hart will only get picked if he does as he's told.

He's got better feet than Willy in my opinion and probably Pep's but Pep won't tolerate him not doing as instructed.

I'd agree, Hart seems fairly competent on the ball and would surely be able to adapt to some degree but I dont think he will. The friendly where within 10min he was hoofing it up field rather than trying to continue playing short was probably enough to seal his fate.

I don't think many on here doubt Hart's ability as a shot stopper but the problem is Pep wants a keeper with the ball skills of an outfield player which Joe doesn't possess.
I fear come 1st Sept that Joe will have moved on.

There seems to be too many rumours linking us with a new goalkeeper for there not to be something in it and Hart being dropped yesterday adds to that.

I can understand Pep picking Caballero over Hart based on working with him for longer in pre season, although I suspect Pep made up his mind on Hart well before he joined us and being honest Hart's performances in the euros can't have helped.

What now for Hart then? Will he stay and fight, work hard to show Pep he can adapt to his style of play, even if another goal keeper is brought in? Or will he decide he isn't Pep's first choice so he would be better off leaving?

It would be interesting to see what happens if a new keeper struggled to adapt to English football, the way De Gea did when he first arrived. Who does Pep pick then, a keeper struggling with the league or a keeper who does not quite play the Pep way?

If Hart does leave I'll be sorry to see him go, he's been with City for a long time and been a key part of our recent success. Considering we don't exactly have a lot of English players in our squad to let England's number one goal keeper leave also doesn't sit entirely well with me. Having said that Pep has to be allowed to put his own stamp on the team so the club have to back him 100%, he is the man to make the big decisions, even if that means popular players moving on.
Carnt see Hart staying myself think he is to used to being num 1 like cech was at Chelsea plus England place he will lose if he is not playing for us and he has alot of endorsements with his name n face on think he will go

That's what I was thinking at the time.

If Pep is allowed to be ruthless with the squad I just wonder why nobody else was allowed the same freedom, given everyone was pushing towards the same thing I'd have thought.

He could have been a target for 10 years, doesn't make him bigger than the club. He's the coach, in his own words, part of a cycle.
How's he bigger than the club?

What are you even on about?

Joes distribution has been poor for a long time,it never feels like he's really worked on it.
He's known for a long time what Pep was going to be requiring of his keeper so if he's not had the sense to work on it,as appears to be the case, then he must be very arrogant to assume he would simply be a fixture

It's best now because we have the manager we have been chasing for best part of 4 years. All the ducks are finally in a row and the next phase can start .

At the moment, Pep is relying on Willy because it's clear he believes Willy is the best option - he relies on every player he puts on the pitch.
There will be many factors as to why he's going with Willy - some of which we will will be unaware of. It doesn't necessarily mean he thinks he's the best shot stopper, or best with distribution or communication - all things considered (ability, attitude, contribution to the team etc) he must put Willy ahead.

It seems doubtful Joe will be our first choice again, but it's theoretically possible. We'll just have to wait and see.

At some point though, this will happen with Aguero, KdB, Silva, Kompany, Zab etc. - it comes to them all eventually. It's only a matter of who can survive the longest by being consistently good!

If we could go back in time and choose Joe again, I think most of us would, and that's about as high a compliment as any player can expect. I'd buy Given again too. But there was plenty of life before them, and there'll be plenty after them.

As I've said before, I don't think he's the largest of our concerns, but if there's an opportunity to upgrade on any player, then we should do so - no matter what position / player. We aren't Hart FC, nor are we Aguero FC. City comes first.

I think you're probably right. Interesting to see where he ends up though.

You asked did I think if we are left with willy and hart do I think Hart will play. I said yes because he ultimately is the better keeper it's not hard and you yourself in another thread picked Hart over Willy. You're boring me know mate as you did last year. Let's wait and see if Hart stays and who is proven right. We did the same last year re: MP and we know how that turned out.

The only person who can be proved right or wrong is you as you are stating Joe is better than Willy. I have agreed with you but simply offered a reasoned argument as to for why Willy has been selected.

If that bores you, fine

If replacing Hart is "what's best for Manchester City football club" why was it not allowed previously?

Sentiment held more weight, more influence, under Pellegrini. A man who held no real power in the corridors of the club.

It's the same reason a fat, out of shape, completely half arsed Yaya was guaranteed to be first name on the team sheet every week under Pellegrini.

Pep won't accept that, nor will he accept a goalkeeper that can't adapt to his style of play.

Fairly straightforward.

I said this last year, and got plenty of stick for it from those who simply refused to recognise it, but this has been a long time coming. Joe has been a very good servant for this club, but he has his flaws, and anyone who couldn't see this day coming under Pep has a pretty rudimentary understanding of the sport and/or is completely blinded by sentiment.

We should be grateful that we have a manager with a backbone and the mandate to clear up shop and take this club to heights we otherwise wouldn't be able to reach.

We're in safe hands. Trust the man in charge.

hart will get selected for tue and he will play as told how to play, this thread will be on page 3 but whoever is leaking out info from the club will still be there, that's the one who has to be removed
