Pep: 'The players deserve a full stadium, we need our fans!'

It wasnt this calender year, nor was it kiev. It was the Cska game.

He changed his post. He had VK supporting written in it which qas for the CSKA incident and not kiev. Also the booing was because of that CSKA match and it started from that day. Some just do it to potray the us against the world.
I know but I edited too(completely agree btw... Mourinho school of thought almost isn't it?)... Kyiv were delt with by EUFA with a fine and a stadium ban... some fans were allowed in big deal (surely as adults we can be happy with just getting our point across and then getting on with life?). Yes it was a little unfair on the few blues who were going over there(not 40 thousand as some would try and make out) but it's seems very much like a case of sensationalist thinking which just gives the impression City fans are all pompous little jobsworths more interested in pointing the finger and being the victims than enjoying the football(which we should be concentrating on right now), I don't agree with that thinking and I will tell any so called superfan exactly the same. Certainly not going to be pressured into supporting the booing it's cringe worthy.

And this coupled with the fact that we have very few day trippers and out of towners. We are still a very unfashionable and provincial club,we have as you say an aeging fan base, the percentage of match going fans in the 16-25 age group is very low or so it appears to me.

TBH when i started going to city my junior season ticket in the kippax was a fiver and the game and ground plus all the fans just swallowed me up and i was hooked, as it is these days i don't think it would have done or have the same impact, a lot of city fans my age have dumped city because of the cost and other things such as you cant sit with your mates etc, its hard to get those fans back when they have gone because like tonight for me it's so easy to stream the game and get a few beers in

Decided to give these comments a thread of its own because it's the first time during the recent successful period which I can remember our own manager asking for more from the fans.

He also made reference to us turning out for the PL but not the Champions league and needing us there.

Lastly mentioned he wants us to forget booing the CL anthem, let the past go and move on.

He really is involved in everything that happens at the club. Given the circumstances of how the game ended up being played tonight, I doubt it was tonight in particular he's referring to but more in the general sense.

What do we think?

Yeah, under the circumstances of the game tonight, his timing was odd.

Don't think there's much doubt we'll have a big crowd for the next 2 home games.

Nothing to see here, tbh

The booing lasts 30 seconds then it's done. The singing tonight for a supposed shit crowd was quality throughout the second half. What does being a 'superfan' have to do with anything?

Superfans thinking they speak for everybody?(too many little cliques on here like that really but that's forums for you) I disagree with it mate made a good case for it too, end of story really. Also we've got people here saying "Pep's no place saying that"... does that not seem a little like delusions of grandeur? Pep can say what he thinks if he wants to, he was more appealing to the fans than criticising... and he's actually very important to the club.

I agree the crowd were great tonight considering, just finding the anthem booing a little cringe worthy now it's been done to death.

SeasonCards became too expensive five years ago and as a result people either sacked off the cups or were fired to sack of City altogether.

I know lads who were right up there in Loyalty Points, lads you'd never expect to stop going to City in a million years, who don't miss going one bit and have found other things to spend their spare cash on that's cheaper rather than scrimp and save every penny just to afford a SC.

The club probably think they've done us a big favour this year freezing prices but they've been too expensive for ages. Even fans came out with "well done City" when it was announced that £750 was a fair price for what was £525 not that long ago for a club in exactly the same position they were when it was that price. That's not a "well done" that's a "fuck me I can stretch my attendance, just, for one more year, phew".

It might have been cheap tonight but it's fucking expensive across the season as a whole so the odd games where it's cheap don't make up for the extortion of ticket prices and travel expenses over the 50+ games we play.

We've got halfway there with the £30 away tickets but there needs to be far far far more cheap SeasonCards available for fans.

It's not just about buying a ticket neither, it's about transport to games whether it be Beswick or Bournemouth or Besiktas. So yeah, £17.50 was a decent price tonight but a tank+half of petrol twice in a week next week going down to Swansea twice and £75 coming out for a SC on payday tomorrow is not.

Many many fans have fucked the cup scheme off because the price of the SC is more than enough.

It's true, last season was the first time I didn't attend a game in 20 odd years. The same for my dad. As you say fans get used to not going and I know many who have dropped off in the last 3/4 years.

It is weird our fanbase at the moment. I do think a certain level of apathy has developed as fans are now so used to success. Strange example but last year we couldn't fill the academy stadium for the youth cup final yet 10 years about 20k turned up for when we beat chelsea. You then look at games like Hamburg and Newcastle in 2004 when where the Etihad was filled to the brim and extremely hostile. You don't see that anymore.

Cost is certainly a major reason and probably why I wont be going to the Barce game.

Also while the club has tried to improve the 'match day experience' it has certainly sanitised the experience which i'm sure has put of a lot of the old hard core. Probably the biggest reason why the crowds are so poor in cups imo

Can't really argue Match going is bloody expensive these days a lot of people can't afford it. I still think though theres lots of blues who simply can't afford a season ticket even if they wanted to who would maybe love to see a one off CL game every now and then. Why not make it easier for them to get to a game? They could have them available at the ticket office and through ticketmaster and the like, no membership required just pay as you go.

i think thats a bit unfair considering the circumstances.

tonight was very enjoyable to go to, atmosphere was top in the south stand, even the colin bell standers were singing. finally people were singing and the whole stand joined in. i think the cheaper tickets changed the demographic aswell as there were barely any tourists tonight compared to other champions league games I've been too, it felt like a maine road crowd almost.

add in - the drum is a good idea in the singing section.

There's no doubt a few local blues needed a kick up the arse to go to these champions league games...i would guess there's as many who either don't like the champions league or just can't be bothered as there are genuine reasons for not going. If Pep was going to say anything, he's better getting it in early (and especially after that performance).

Quality football tonight and i personally enjoyed the Champions league games last year too...the only downside is no beer :-(

The football world has lost touch with the reality of the lives of it's fans, most of whom are ordinary working people struggling to make ends meet. There was some talk on the radio today about Championship clubs charging £40 a go to watch them. It's fucking bonkers.

very good post but i think there is more to it and i can't put my finger on it, spurs tonight sold what 80k and Leicester will no doubt sell out in there next home game, but it could be argued it's because they are new to the competition, the direct debit system saved me when it was introduced as that year i simply didnt have the funds to renew

I disagree. Cup attendances are always lower than league ones. We have over 85000 members and the club price tickets as best they can. Fans need to start buying into the champs league. The players want it, the manager wants it., the club wants it.
