Pep's tactics

Who rattled your cage knob rot??

It was very much tongue in cheek as we'd had the debate over silva, with which I was wrong I might add. Now instead of acting like wonder women and throwing your panties at me, stfu!!!
Wouldn't mind wonder woman throwing panties at me really.

'Acting' and 'being' are miles apart, mate

I love how it keeps changing.

Mancini had a great start to the 2011/2012 season but teams figured out his - full backs playing as wingers so Silva and Toure have space - tactic and we never properly came up with a plan B, well apart from 3 at the back which the players never warmed to.

Pep has played more systems in the past few weeks than any individual City manager in any tenure I can recall.

Well said, beauty about pep is there isnt one system as it was found out by hammers n unitec who thought we,ll play inverted full backs, pep versatility and innovative thinking is what makes him the best

We'll Gundogan, Silva and De Bruyne were all fit for the first time and with Nolito's suspension, all three played together for the first time and it didn't really work too well. Putting Kev out to the left removed quite a bit of our drive and Gundogan was often playing either too deep or too far forward.
Swansea pushed 6 players up the pitch to press our defence from the off and, again, this tactic was relatively successful - Swansea being the first to try it from the off - It got the opposition chances but it comes at a risk of the counter attack - but yet again City players further up the pitch were torn between trying to keep posession or going for the killer pass and often lost the ball as a result. Sagna and Kolarov had poor games at full back and need to buck up (low pass completion) which didn't help.
Good job Pep is the master traction at tweaking formations. He did it twice in the second half to force c the win.
Spurs will be tough if we stick to 4-1-4-1. I think an injury to KDB will force the issue and we will revert to 4-2-3-1.

In truth, had we taken our chances in the first half, that tactic would have been exposed as hopelessly, hopelessly unsuccessful. One pass from Bravo had us pouring in on their defence, but we made a proper mess of it through poor shooting. Agree with the rest.

That's my point though. We don't take anywhere near the chances we should on the counter attack. Caught in two minds between keeping posession and going for it. It could cost us against better teams.

I don't think it's 'caught in two minds' it's just bad final ball. And Pep is on it.

Edit (& Sterling, Silva etc not finishing quick enough)

One if the things I like best about Pep is the tactical tweaks he does moving a player 5-10 yards to occupy space differently on the pitch - to disrupt the opposition or exploit a weakness. It really is so simple yet stunning in its effectiveness. Often it totally changes the game in our favour.

Jeez, just let him have his opinions. When all 4 of Silva, KDB, Gundogan and Fernandinho are fully fit and available to play the same game (still not happened yet), Gudogan is going to replace SOMEONE. Or, Fernandinho will move into the back 4. Or, KDB will play wider. One of those HAS to happen,
Or Silva moves out wide?

Revert to 4-2-3-1? We'd need to have played that a fair bit under Pep to revert to it but we have not. Pep is not a big fan of the double pivote but he will employ it if he thinks it is the best solution. I think it is something he is more likely to switch to in-game if needed than a starting option. I would expect Dinho, Silva and Gundogan to start, with Dinho the DM. I think Navas will ge the nod on the flank and he might well go with Sagna and Clichy at FB but ask them to play narrow. We have. Celtic to deal with first though so not too concerned about Spurs at this point.

Very interested to see what he does in Glasgow. In theory, Swansea should have been a much mkre difficult opponent but Celtic and their crowd will be psyched up for this one and it could be a real battle.
