Spurs vs City post match

We looked stale going forward and bringing kelechi on made no difference, letting nasri go maybe a bit short sighted

Nasri, other than on his debut, has never performed against Spurs because they boo him and the precious little baby didn't like it.

We gave away two sloppy goals but with better finishing and luck we would have got a draw and that would include them scoring their penalty

Felt we were struggling as soon as I saw Fernando was playing. If this fella hasn't been good enough to start in our other games how can he be picked for this? He was no good in Pellegrinis side when all he wanted out of him was a defensive midfielder. In Peps side that position is pivotal to the way we play and playing Fernando there is tantamount to tactical suicide. Fernandinho in that position has all the tools needed, he's quick, he's got a good first touch, he's good facing our own goal and he can pass. Fernando has none of these abilities. By playing Fernando you also negate other players eg Silva receives the ball a lot slower and has less space.

Then we get to Navas who is actually more of a threat for the opposition than he is for us, can someone explain why we have a £37m player sat on the bench who can't get on the pitch in front of this fraud? With no KDB our potency is reduced dramatically, putting Navas in then weakens us even further.

Spurs were good but not great, we played a huge part in our downfall with a piss poor starting XI.
I kinda felt that Fernando's performance dragged Fernandinho down. Fernandinho's been fine when he hasn't played alongside Fernando.

Don't know if it was just Zaba's age or if it was fatigue from the Celtic game, but he looked knackered. Sagna might of done better if he played.

So people say but not Pep. He always said the priority is to be able to defend.

Obviously he requires both but it doesn't matter how well you do either, if your arse goes under pressure & it all goes out of the window, which is what happened to Kolarov again.

But we are top of the league, have just come back from a (self inflicted) knackering midweek game & had to face one of the fittest teams in the league, away from home.

We still competed til the end. Sort out the fuckups & we win the league by a margin imo.
Pretty much. Although I don't think Kolarov was our worst player today.

Pep got it wrong Today.

Team selection was all over the place.

Had to get beat at some point.

At least there's a 2 week break and a home match to come.

Bad result but wouldnt read to much into it, just a bad day at the office. Zabba legs has gone but can do the job against mid and lower teams but cant anymore against top sides in this system especially, kolorov just had 2 bad games in a row, talk of letti g them both go in jan is amturish, hopefully we can sign 2 pacey full backs in summer, bellerin would be a great addition

lot of pellegrini players out there today, the two best performers stones and bravo, were pep signings. Won't reach peak Pep till more of these players are sold.

Pep and city have been praised with same set of players, you cant say they are pellegerini players when things dont go our way

The line-up was easily predictable and absolutely logical. You can look at the "guess team" thread - most of mates have named it correctly.

Why did we spend £37m on Sane for Navas to be ahead of him? When is the guy going to start a league game? What's the issue?

we mostly played cannon fodder in that time though, we were good against those teams last season (results wise), not so good against top teams. and now with pellegrini players we came up short against a top team in the league and a intense team in the CL.

We got found out in the last 2 games, so we need to be able to adapt our game to suit our opponents. Otherwise, Pep will just become a more expensive and successful version of Pellegrini. That said, we won't come up against many better teams than Spurs, who will run all of the title contenders close if they carry on playing like that.

While i agree with you to a certain extent its more about adapting our team when we don't have certain players on he pitch.....

kdb gundongan and nolito maintain possession much better than Navas and fernando...look at what pep says in his interview...."we lost too many balls in dangerous positions" and "they were one step ahead of us today." These comments are about possession and regaining it and also about winning second balls....fernando and navas both game away and failed to get/keep possession...this in turn puts Kolorov and our back 4 under pressure which they are not good enough to deal with (especially the full backs)....fernandihnio was playing out of position as well due to the injuries.....so we lost his ability today (though he played well) but again the only decent play came through him and silva linking....navas was the kdb replacement and that says it all! he offered nothing in terms of attacking threat and therefore there back 4 and midfield had less to think about and were able to close silva out time and time again as navas is zero threat when he has the ball

we can get away with one of Kolorov, Navas and fernando on the pitch but not all 3 at the same time.....navas and fernando aren't good enough and this then puts our back 4 under pressure which Kolorov and zabba cant handle (especially Kolorov at fullback)

exactly

I didn't expect to win today and we are still top albeit by just 1 point,be nice to have a home game next, onward and upwards

Be very interesting to see how the next two games pan out at home. The opposition are an upgrade on what we have faced so far at home. We have played the bottom 4 sides this season out of the first 7 games. To be honest only the United win is impressive when you look at where teams are.

However 2nd half we created 4 good chances and whilst I thought Spurs played well, They didn't create too much.

If we carry on making mistakes like we did on Wednesday and today then we will keep on messing games up.

Kolorov, Zabaleta, Fernando and Navas in the same team is asking for trouble.

It's really disappointing that we just don't seem to have any young defenders who are ready to step up. This defence is too old and any team with pace and that is prepared to press will have success against them.

37 million on sane
27 million on Jesus
8 million on Moreno
Surely we could of just signed one of them and brought a RB or LB
doesn't make sense to me
