Turnstiles Broke! Massives Queues Outside The Ground

If I have a bag with me, which I had stopped taking but needed one today, I always get searched & I'm in CBL1

Although I do have a Twitter account I rarely use it but have composed an email to Supporter Services asking what happened & explaining how I can appreciate that there were problems with the turnstiles plus other things but it would have been good if they could have given out information to fans waiting outside etc.

They obviously didn't drop the security checks when they realised that lots were going to miss the game as they searched my bag over 17 minutes into the game after queuing for 50 minutes.

I wouldn't say that people are particularly moaning rather giving out explanations & saying what happened to them.
I only suggested a tweet as they seem to respond to them, and I don't tweet. As someone respected and senior in our support I'd hope they would respond, don't know if you're a supporters club member, but maybe copy KP into the email as well.

It would be nice to actually get an official response from the club on the website, as today was clearly a significant issue for many, and people with less mobility should not have to endure waits like that, without explanation.

There is an article in the evening news with an explanation from the club.

I had to laugh at that.
The club said they "redirected fans to another entrance".
actually they just opened a gate and let hundreds of fans charge towards it.

I'm a 30 year season ticket holder and it takes a lot for me to criticise the club - i hate to do it - but today was just inexcusable.

Thanks, I'll have a look, but its not somewhere I ever visit, as I don't actually support the 'evening news', I support Manchester City, so wouldn't it be better if it was an official release on our website ? This again points to a lack of empathy from City with their core support, as quite a few keep mentioning.

Anyway I didn't have any issue today, so I'm not complaining, I was just trying to be helpful, and suggesting those that did contact the club directly, and ask for an official explanation.

[/end thread for me]

Whilst we're all having a whinge. I can't believe no one has brought up how bad it was trying to get a drink at half time in Block 111/110. Apart from this season getting a beer at half time has never been a problem, whoever's round it is usually leaves on the 38th minute and it has never been an issue but today one of the lads left on the 35 min mark and only got served with 2 mins of the half time break left. He left at this time because of the queues last game. The agency staff haven't got a clue and the organisation is a shambles, they have 2 people just walking round aimlessly when they could be helping pour the beers.
Tell me this is a windup

I went in SS3 just after the Chelsea/Leicester game ended. While waiting inside for my lad to be 'patted down' behind me the turnstile next to the one I came through was playing up (Steward furiously pressing buttons as it wasn't locking after people came in).

As this was about 2.20 we must have just got in before the chaos. Looking around before kickoff with friends who hadn't arrived we wondered what was happening.

Looks like another fuck up, there was a cup game last season I forget which one where the entrance i had to use as my seat had changed to SS2 rather than SS3 wasn't available due to the barriers for away fans, luckily I'd travelled early but the stewards/showsec were useless and non-reactive.

As for yesterday, to open gates and allow a surge is fucking disgraceful on so many levels. There was a bloke in 315 asking if there was a spare seat....I'd guess he bummed in with friends, luckily he didn't have a bomb under his wooly hat as he'd not have been searched. The outside rushing/Hillsborough potential is shocking I know there's no direct access to the stands however, a faller at the foot of the stairs could have caused problems.

You think that's bad? There were people couldn't get a pint and get back to their seats at halftime

If you're stupid enough to put up with that, the awful beer and the inflated prices then you deserve everything you get in my opinion. And it's people like you who ruin the match-day experience for people like me, who sits on the end of a row by an exit and has to get up every 30 seconds and put up with people pushing in to where we sit as the stewards (rightly) won't let them block the aisles.. If having a drink is more important than watching 10-15 minutes of football then I'd suggest the pub might be a better venue for you.

Rather than just moan on here (and I'm not being unsympathetic), has anyone actually tweeted 'supporter services' asking for an explanation of today's issues ?

As I said above I think it was a combination of things, security initially, as they were searching everyone at around 2:30, and then with already massive queues having built as a result of the initial security, some entrances had a fault exasperating the issues. It seems they dropped the security checks when they realised that lots of people were going to miss the start of the game, the better decision would surely have been to delay kick off, and get people in safely. Again, rather than moan on here perhaps the question should be properly asked of supporter services ?

Twitter is full of tweets to supporter services about the issue. Literally every comment to @mancityhelp between 2.30 and 8 yesterday was about that.
The silence was deafening in the response!

And the article failed to mention the building of the glass tunnel and the way that cuts off access via one of the turnstiles, which was also a factor yesterday.

I have been told that laings will be working in our stadium for 4 years continuously and maybe your idea for doing at the same time would make better sense but from what I see the works to the Colin bell stand are significant and already under time pressures and I think taking twelve months. The answe to your question is possibly because we will need extra seats to move people around when the poor bastads in 127 and 125 are told either pay more or move, as this will have a knock on effect to other area of the stadium. I will ask the question though as it is very valid.

You mention 125 in your post? I have mates in there who think they have escaped the eviction. Was that a typo or us the plan that those in 125 are soon to be moved on as well?

Maybe it's lazy journalism, relying on Club briefings?

I think the glass tunnel is piss poor and fans being moved for more corporates a sad reflection on our great Club. That said, most posters on here didn't give a toss when fans faced massive price hikes in Level 2 and relocation. I know your views were more balanced.

If we don't make more effort to stick together as a fan base the Club are likely to make more poor decions like the glass tunnel.

Tbf fair they did respond - once with a sneering tweet about what time somebody who tweeted got in the ground, pathetic comment and lack of interest from supporter services was discracwful IMHO.

I have read the evening news article and, as I said on first page of this thread, what a load of bollocks one turnstile failiure didn't cause all that. There has been growing queues at every home game this season going into P with the new security measures (especially if you get some numpty in shocsec who thinks his high vis makes him a copper spending a stupid amount of time with their mini metal detector) and from what I see on the security tables full of soft drink bottles and food stuff, it seems to be more about stopping people bring their own food n drink in than anyrhing else, also with them situated in the middle those on the outer turnstile have to block the inner turnstile people while emtying their bags.

As said P has had growing queues all season so the idiot who believed blocking off access from Y without some other point of access has caused this.
Build you bloody glass ceiling and wall up the concourse if thats the plan City, but at least have a plan for the reduced access points.

Sorry dids it was yes - should have said 126

I just go to the matches which are not on tele because they tend to be on at the traditional time and I actually prefer to watch the others from the comfort of my own armchair. Why, I save around £100, I can choose who I sit next too in a far more comfortable seat and not be crammed in.Would you sit in a cinema or corporate on a cheap plastic chair that if someone opens their legs you have to close yours. I can also eat and drink my choice without having to queue, I don't have to queue or be frisked at my lounge door.I don't have to constantly stand up during the match to let some pisshead out to go to the toilet for the third time and, I get a far better view. It is a no brainier really. What I found ironic yesterday was the signs which kept flashing up to say tell us about your match day experience. Go have a look outside and see for yourself and you would not need to ask. My solution to the queues is build more turnstiles. Then use the meeters and greeters, that start about a mile and a half from the ground and whose only job appears to be to smile and say hi to all and sundry, ( though most spend the time talking to each other) to man them. There problem sorted with no increase on the ticket price.

Spot on with the need for more turn styles. The meters and greeters wouldn't even pass the ball yesterday!

I am not saying it was not a fuck up for people today and would not have pissed people off. Justifiably so. Please before you dive in and have an unecessary pop read the context of how I wrote that sentence. I said it was not a huge issue in the context of the clubs longer term vision.

WHEN the football bubble bursts, and corporate types no longer see football as the done thing, who then supports the club? You think all the pissed off supporters who were charged a fortune for seats, shifted about at will, treated like dogs etc etc will come flooding back?!
