City v Everton post match

I thought it was an underwhelming game played against a team of bus Parkers who had a go on the odd counter attack. Two pens saved and a couple of top quality saves from their inspired keeper kept them in it.

We need to get out of third gear and really impose ourselves on teams we should be beating, especially at home. Upside is we can and will improve under Guardiaola.

On another day, we win that game 5-1. We even missed two penalties.

I'm not worried at all, our performance was excellent. Play that game another 10 times and we win every time.

Onwards and upwards - let's win at the Nou Camp.

I'm still pissed off at how we conspired to take 2 of the shittest pens I've seen, same place, perfect height for the keeper but some of the football was exquisite and I'm choosing to focus on that positive.

Be over the moon when we upgrade the full backs, maybe Pep will look at easing some of the kids further into the setup.

And we'll probably lose that game and we are STILL in great shape. We have the best owners, the best manager and coaching staff and the best players in the league. And we are playing great football.

City supporters who aren't happy with this situation (I don't mean you, by the way) need to think if this is the right sport for them.

Even if we win there'll be something to moan about with some on here

Just got a chance to look over the highlights since been busy with work. Looks like we were playing great. Seems to be a constant problem that teams score from their only chance the whole game.

I bet we could play that game 100 times again and win 99 times, pretty unbelievable we miss two penalties and their keeper makes a few wonder saves when he couldn't even get a game a fulham.

Still a point against Everton is not terrible and the general trend is we are improving and becoming more comfortable with what Pep wants us to do. If you think back to how we played towards the end of last season we have made huge progress in a short time, just because we have Pep doesn't mean we are suddenly going to be unbeatable when last season we only just made 4th place despite trying our hardest to fuck it up.

Maybe, and I agree that their defending was dirty in the last 15 mins, but I can absolutely guarantee that if we'd have bagged those 2 pens (which we won because of our tenacity) and won 3-1, neither you nor anyone else would have said cock-all about our defending to concede 1 goal. That's simply how transparent we are as footy fans. I'm not having a go at you personally, just highlighting the fact that when we don't get the win, we can easily presume there is something inherently wrong with the team.

It is easy to highlight the errors we made defensivley, especially when a costly goal was conceded but, tbf, Lukaku did demonstrate some serious qualityin fashioning and converting the one decent chnace that they had in the game.

The other two shots they had were from outside the box and only one required Bravo to make a save, a routine save at that.

They hardly managed to put a ball into our box, I think they registered 3 successful passes into our box, of which only 2 were from open play and were received at the edge of our box.

The overall defensive perfomance of the team yesterday very much fit the model of how Pep wants to stop our opponents scoring. Yes, we need to reduce the number of errors we make but it is imposible to eradicate them completely and some will result in goals. Rarely will we fail to win games where we reduce our opponets to less than 5 goal attempts.

It says a lot when koeman says we were the best opponents he has ever faced in his managerial career

we will play alot worst and win and when teams come to sit back your never going to have clear cut chances but you have to take the free 2 in the pens we had but the keeper had one of them days only things is lack of height in the sqaud we got 2 very good wingers and like to get round the back i would see in the next window some height with a striker

Very disappointed.

Disappointed that two world-class players couldn't convert at least one penalty between them.

Disappointed that, with all the first-half possession, the closest we got to scoring was to miss a spot-kick.

Disappointed that we seemed to lack ideas, yet again, on how to break down a packed defence.

Disappointed that we could only secure a point, when Spurs struggled to get a draw.

Somebody just along from us said at half-time said that Iheanacho should have taken the first penalty, rather than KdB, and I tend to agree with him. As he showed when he took one in the FA Cup against Villa last season, Nacho is very cool in those situations.

On the plus side, as Danny Jackson said post-match, none of the players had a bad game. My MotM was Clichy, but it could have been any one of several others.

Onwards and upwards. Let's go out and show Barcelona how far we've come in the last couple of years.

If you compare the performance yesterday with the draw with Everton back in January, it's patently evident that we've improved enormously. Quality football will be rewarded, and I'll be interested to see how we fare in the league in the coming weeks.

I used to think this in the 'old' days - more wishful thinking than conviction, and the same idea is often rolling round my head climbing the spiral! Could have been yesterday. People have been drooling about the quality of football we're playing but it is the result and points that matter. City fans would have been a lot happier for just one of the pens to go in or Lukaku's shot to have hit a post! Doesn't matter how fantastic the football is if it only delivers a single point. Oppo teams will be delighted if we play galactico football and allow them a goal with possibly their only chance.
True - results and points do matter and we're top :-)

that was the first time pep set us up like his days in bayern munich with wing play and speed getting around the fullbacks but they had height in the squad and we did not
would love to see Álvaro Negredo in this squad or dzeko

Totally agree.Thought the performance yesterday was stunning apart from the penalties. It was a joy to watch our play out from Bravo. Thought everyone played well although Nacho did look a little lost on his own up front. I hope Pep gives Serge and Nacho the opportunity to play together sometime soon - I think that would work well. Top of the league and we haven't really started yet. Happy days.

Can't understand why Sergio put his pen in the same place.

Double double bluff psychology?

He needs to stop this stuttering run up. If the keeper doesn't commit, then he has a greater chance of saving it. Kun hasn't looked comfortable with a few this season.
Get back to how he was... but we do we need to find an alternative.

Quality football is only rewarded if you have players who are capable of shooting accurately, as and when you get a chance. We passed the ball when we should have been having a go on occasion.

There is clear evidence of improvement and some of the football played yesterday was as good as I have ever seen from a City side. We are victims of the start we made under Pep to an extent and expectations are deliriously high. It is such a disappointment to miss two penalties and their keeper made some really excellent saves, but we were the better team by a very wide margin, so much so that Koeman has now described us as the best team he has ever faced as a manager.

We are playing a long game. We may not win the league this year, though I think we will, but the standard of football and the foundations laid will set us up for a generation.
