Barca v City Post Match Thread

Ιt was our best game so far but the absence of Yaya and Hart pisses me off so much that I could blame Pep for Catalan hidden agenda theories ...

???!?!???!?!??!?

We were beaten 4-0 by a distinctly poor Barca side! I thought we were "OK" in parts but that's about as far as I could stretch it.

We were terrible in defence and rubbish in front of goal. Our best game, it was not.

Which part? That Spurs have a few decent players or that Guardiola, who lost three times consecutively to Spanish opposition in the semis, whisper it quietly may not be the best manager in world football.

Look I get that he's the best manager that City have ever employed. But what pisses me off is that he doesn't recognize the limitations of his current set of players.

Pep does recognise the limitations of his players , but one transfer window will not repair the mis management of the last couple of seasons and Sterling , Silva , Otamendi , Stones , Kolarov are just a few players who are playing far better football than last season , he has had 3 months to totally change a teams attitude and its tactics and we are still top of the league and playing some breathtaking football at times. So whisper it quietly , give him a f*cking chance

I'd hate to think what a Barcelona team that actually played well would have done to us.

We are clearly playing better but we need new full backs and another top class DM before we can become a top team.

Well you said for instance you would have dier,Erikson,Ali and rose so I presume you think they are better than kdb, silva, dinho and kolorov and not only better but can play in peps preferred way? What limitations are you talking about dinho slipping? Bravo fucking up a 5 yard pass? We all saw with pellegrini that he was a fuckwit and tactically useless so what formation would you have played that would have prevented tonight's result

Feel we're Gona see the end of Kun in the summer :( think pep likes strikers that can do more than just score goals.

Sure he does http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...-new-contract-at-man-city-to-keep-him-at-the/

I called this at 7.20pm as soon as I saw the team !!
No Sergio and KDB as a false centre forward !! Do me a fucking favour !!
Shit decision, shit formation and shit managerial overall aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ..
call it what you want.

Because the results does not tell us as much. We were better than the year we lost 1-0 there with Joe in maniacal form. We controlled lots of the play. Pressured them early and they often couldn't get out of the back. We created chances and wee toe to toe for good seats of the game. In every prior meeting, we looked like we were playing with 10 men to their 12 from the start. This game looked nothing like any of the previous games. Yes we lost. Probably worse than ever before. But we are clearly closer to them now than ever before.

Any one game can get out of hand, especially on errors and bad luck. But if you couldn't see the closing of the gap, well!

Barca played poorly tonight, and not all of that was down to us making them play poorly. They replaced two of their main defenders and still we fail to score. If the game had ended 4-3 or 3-2, then I'd agree that the evidence supported a narrowing of the gap. But what could have been 5-0 without the penalty miss does not a narrowing a gap make!

Sorry but you are dead wrong, the tactic was working well. Pep can't be held up as a bad tactician due to a slip and a bad individual error. How many other teams keep their front three quiet like we did, next to fucking none. Sorry but you should be more level headed and have a better understanding of the game.

Lets not get over critical.
I'm frustrated big time in the basic errors we have made tonight but I can see the bigger picture. The future is as bright as you can get it. We will have to inevitably take a few bumps along the way and unfortunately that might mean coming up short this season. We have been playing beautiful football and Pep is still toying around with what he has got at his disposal, we might have to take a few steps back to achieve our main goal in the long run.
Pep is obviously a stubborn man and a perfectionist and he will leave no stone unturned in trying to get to where we won't to be.
I have been pessimistic as much as anyone the last few years under Pellers, as I couldn't see any development, we seemed to hit a plateau. Now we are invigorated and have young talent bursting at the seams to come through including Jesus Mark 2 to come and blow us off our feet. I have never been as happy or confident as I'am now being s blue. Let the media and other fans laugh at our setback tonight but I'm pretty sure they will be eating their words come the next few seasons. Enjoy the ride!!

We made 2 bad mistakes & 1 slip, & got punished - as u would expect against the best - they are without doubt the best attacking front line in world football, so keep that perspective.
For 50 minutes, we looked like we could "live" with them - which is a first at the Nou Camp. For the first time, I felt we belonged there.
We have a few players struggling for fitness, and a couple who may be past it, but we played pretty much the best available team that he could.
Facts are that we remain top of the league, & will almost certainly qualify from this champs league group, as tonight was p pretty much a free hit. Come January, we will have Gabriel Jesus available, & he IS going to transform us. So, don't have nightmares; sleep well.

now i have not read a single post on here after the game, so I don't know what the mood is. but tonight is the first time we have ever looked like we belong with the top three (Barcelona, Real and Bayern). I'm not sure of exact numbers but i make it 13 times wev'e played the big 3 (4xreal, 4xBayern 5x Barca) in 6 years. and withe the exception of the Bayern game away where we won (dead rubber to them), in all honesty weve never had a sniff!

tonight was different! they went 1-0 up through a mistake. and before the sending off we were matching them (without our best player). even at 3-0 down we were having a go!

we will do them at the Etihad!

But the best part of my night has been realising that them rag ****s are now like us 15 years ago, praying their rivals get dicked in Europe!

M.C.F.C SALFORD! (from a salford blue that only knows 4 lads thats have been to old trafford more than him)!

Decent performance for 50 odd mins, an Pep is clearly better than Pell! However if your the best manager in the world you need to be adaptable an not sure he is!
A) We just do not have the top quality yet to play these teams how he wants
B) Everyone agrees the full backs needed upgrading, yet spends money on bringing in a keeper when the one we had was very good (Bravo for me should be binned) just my opinion
C) Like people have stated we lack a real leader when Kompany is out an Zab on last legs
D) Light weight up top an rely on Sergio too much.
Time will tell, but just can't see at the moment us reaching the heights of the really top teams unless we sort of the defence an get some world class players in through the spin of the team

Still very early days yet. No need for panic stations. Remember Pellers' early days and we went on to win a double that season with a squad that was nowhere near the quality of this one and also in a harder to win league that year than this.

We do need to beat Barca next time though, as assuming BMG beat the sectarians a draw or defeat would put us as favourites to NOT qualify from the group and that would be unacceptable under any circumstances given our squad quality. Not getting out of the group this season would be a regression of Swales-like proportions. Managers have been sacked for less.

Some big games arriving fast though which can either act as a springboard to a great season or a noose to add pressure to our manager. A league cup derby against united. I shudder to think of the pressure Pep will be under if we lose against Barca and them twats.

An easy run in the league though (on paper) in November but a tough ish December.

Onwards and upwards. Remember 2013/14, an up and down start and we went on to win a double. Tonight isn't the end of the world.

I don't totally diasgree-however, that season under Pellegrini we had Kun, Negredo, Dzeko and Jovetic as our strikers. The disparity now is the reason we are not scoring enough goals given the chances we are creating.

Oh come on Guy. How were the tactics working that well that we were so negative in putting there back four under any pressure ?
On those occasions when we went forward (only in the first half) did we have a few players in the penalty area ??
Sorry mate but a poor selection and an even worse formation cost us.
I love Pep but IMO he fucked up good and proper o this occasion !!!

Rose instead of Aleks. Don't think Dier is better than Dinho but I don't think Dinho is a natural DM. KDB and DA for me. Silva, wonderful to watch but while not as useless as Navas in the final third he doesn't half squander some opportunities, both for himself and others.

As for the formation. Pep has revolutionized the way we play. I would have preferred evolution. A solid back four, with Hart. Dinho, Gundongan and Yaya in midfield and any three from god knows how many up front. While Yaya is piss poor at pressing he is a wonderful passer and retains possession better than most. Also knows how to take a penalty. Also think Nasri's exodus was a bit precipitous as he is now showing for Sevilla.
