Messi.....

I think we might have to pay a tad more than £150! But he's not on £500k a week as I think his basic is about half that (£13m a year). The rest he gets from commercial deals. much like Rooney. But we could also bring in something like £50m a year in additional commercial income so effectively it's a nil cost deal.
With 12 months left on his contract don't you think £150m would tempt Barca. As for his wages, I'm sure Messi would be looking at a big final pay deal. I'd imagine Messi would be looking at Bale's wages & thinking I'll have some of that.

PersonallyI think he's the greatest player ever just my opinion and I also think it's nailed on he's coming I've said it on here before I was told at a support club meeting last year when they said the deal for pep was done

I think his buyout clause is £180m so if he made it clear he was serious about leaving Barca would snatch our hands off for £150m. I'd be looking more at the £100m mark to do a deal, maybe less.

Is he able to buy out his contract under the Webster ruling?

I'd take anything Marca say with a pinch of salt. He'll end up signing an improved contract at Barcelona.

They haven't really said that much, basically that he's not going to sign a new contract until the current one is expired so he has freedom to make his next move in 2018.

2018 is certainly too late for us. Even today is getting pretty late given he is 29.

I think if you asked anyone from Pep upwards if they wanted to sign Messi on a free in 2018 at 31 they'd bite your arm off.

He's not a player who relies on speed, and he doesn't need to score goals to be the best player on the pitch. He's already moved deeper for Barcelona, and I imagine he'll replace Iniesta as the #8 in a year or 2 and maybe even take on Xavi's old role later than that.

Pep has such incredible belief in him i think he'd take him at 35, let alone 31.

Seen summat today about some "Marca award ceremony" or summat like that.
Not one person from Barca turned up which apparently pissed them off.
Some reports saying they released the Messi contract story just to cause a bit of unrest, bit of retaliation if you like.
Dunno if it's true or not.

No thanks. We're not too shabbily served up at the sharp end of the pitch. Rather spend the huge ("massive", even!) cash outlay (even if no fee, what will his wages be?) on a pair of top notch FBs and a CB or two.

Same here jimbo,he would throw the whole team out and the younger players would have to go,be great to stick our fingers up at everyone but not worth it

If you get the chance of signing the best player in the world , you sign him .. it will be a first for MCFC and one I would love to see .
