Watching game in town

It’s been utter garbage watching the game in town my last 3 times. The first was Real Madrid home leg, as others have said Oyster bar was refusing entry to all city fans but to be honest the atmosphere in general was shite. Compare it to an away game in a European city centre and its x10 better.

Second time was Willy’s heroics in the final. Was in Sawyers Arms on Deansgate and there was loads of southern reds in there with rag tops on supporting Liverpool wtf?

Other time I was in Mary Ds for the Derby when the scum beat us 1 -0 and the atmosphere was shit tbh, as well as the overpriced piss they serve.

I would say for town avoid Sawers arms, Burton arms, and The Nags Head, rat infested.

Any more thoughts on Mary D's? I've never been in when City aren't at home.

Interested to hear there's often mither in town. Never seen it in Middleton and there's about a 50/50 split in my new home of Failsworth. We all know each other.

I was in there for the 6-1 and although my memory is hazy I remember it being busy

We took the sawyer arms at the last blue moon meet up. Now officially a blue pub. Prestwich blue and Manchester the knife took out all the rags top boys.

The rest just ran when they saw us.

Quite a few pubs city fans will be in numbers, courtyard off Oxford rd, walkabout in print works, Waldorf Piccadilly, shack, Tibet st tavern

I don't use any of those. You'll find me in The Bricklayers, Last Orders or The Willow. Older crowds and we all know each other.

The regulars are adamant there's no trouble.

Willow is where my mates still in Failsworth/Newton Heath go .... seen a few derbies in there, and was usually just the one rag who is a regular, and not a dick ...

Not easy to watch it there due to numbers. The Cotton Tree, The Streetbridge, The Bay, Where I will be, and just up the road the Colliers are good pubs to watch City in/near FW.

Cheers for the replies chaps! I might try printworks, don't usually like it in there though! Not bothered about the trouble I find if your looking for it you will find it! I won't be wearing colours and I'll be meeting both city and united mates after game who have gone, I don't mode united fans who go, it's the go shites who will be in these pubs at a home game who boil my piss!
Dive bar of Oldham street is OK loads of TVs and a big screen.

Can't imagine many things being worse than watching a Derby in a boozer in the company of gobshite plastic rags

I don't like watching any city game in the pub cos you always get one mouthy twat

Chris? He's more in to cricket and cycling. We had a good chat pre-Wales v Belgium.

Have watched City on TV (not derbies) in town itself on a few occasions, and have either found the atmosphere dead or overly raggish, depending on how important the game is to the league. Tend to find a lot of rags travel up to Piccadilly and then hang around in town, presumably they can't get a ticket so just go for a day out. Would certainly advise caution of you do choose to watch in town, you may find a lot of their fans are day trippers and won't give two thoughts to starting something then running for the train. Last place I watched a game was at the Town Hall Tavern, West Brom, my wife was expecting any day with me on standby, she was meeting friends for a hen do/afternoon tea round the corner. Anyway, were more rags in there cheering on our opponents than anything, they all disappeared after 70 minutes when we scored the winner.

Have you thought about watching just outside of town, at one of the pubs the supporters clubs gather at? Usually a good choice in my experience. Used to watch at the Nelson in Didsbury on away derby days, but think they lost their telly 'license' last year?

Was great in there on derby day - all blues except the one old boy red who is one of the only rags I have ever been able to stomach and could take a defeat as well as a win (he actually said well done boys, great to watch, after the 6-1), and if we won you could see the red pub opposite emptying as full time approached as the rags all did one to get home early - thta always spoke to me of their base need to win, win, win, rather than just enjoy the ride. Not us lot though, win or lose on the booze, and Nelly karaoke to top it off. Remember traffic being stopped by celebrating blues and the police having to have a word on more than one occasion.

Actually watched last years or the one before at the pub round the corner, The Fletcher Moss, but that was around 50/50 thanks to a heavy didsbury student contingent shouting on Rooney & Co in very non-manc accents.

the derby youre talking about in the Fletcher moss must be the drab 0-0 from last season. I was in there and all the united fans to a man (or boy) were all studenty non-Mancunian types.

The Royal Oak seems to have replaced the Nelson as the main city pub to watch the games now. I think the Didsbury blues still run a coach to the home games out of both of them though (??) And the celebratory conga/road block outside the nelson is legendary ;-)

A bit further up the road, The griffin used to be a massive city pub a few years back showing all the wasters. for some inexplicable reason took all the TVs out and changed to a foodie type place. It used to coin it in. Madness .

Anybody any ideas for Cheadle Hulme or near to it?

Usual haunts no longer playing ball, it would appear

I tried watching the Swansea game in town a few weeks ago, and none of the places that used to show games had it on. Asked a few of the door staff and they said hardly anywhere shows the 3pm games in town any more. Not sure if the police have clamped down on it?

Has anyone watched the game in The Victoria in Withington recently? I've heard it's quite good. Just deciding where to watch it tomorrow. Cheers
