'As A City Fan', Would You Like To See Safe Standing Introduced At The Etihad?

l

its up to them mate of course. i prefer to sit down, comfy like.

as for your line "as long as you're fine" perhaps you should relate that to people who do stand, do block others view and who do break the law as it stands at this time.

but as long as they are fine.

But the whole bloody point is there will be a stand specifically for people to stand safely.

So when you say no you don't want safe standing because you like to sit, you are saying :

1) Nobody should be allowed to stand at all, ever, even in a stand specifically for that.

2) You'd rather they stood and blocked your view then got moved somewhere where everyone was standing.

As somebody who has been told off twice this season for standing up while we take a penalty (they're not elderly near me either, just miserable gits who want to pretend they're at the cinema) I would certainly welcome the idea of a standing area, then those who prefer to sit will be happy and we'll each have our own section and everyone will know where they stand (no pun intended)
absolutely.

what gets me though is if you stay sat down you can see the penalty along with everyone else, ok we'll miss the bloody thing but you'll see it miss.

nice try.

i am saying if the thickies want to stand let them. but enforce the no standing where it is forbidden.

away games should be fun.

An improved atmosphere will not be an automatic by-product of safe standing.

It will be a combination of factors, including :
:Targeted marketing at existing, willing fans & young & displaced/disaffected former fans. The club must target and re engage with this group.
:Very affordable,reduced ticket prices.
:Mates rates allowing groups of lads to buy in groups & stand together......etc,etc

I'd be in favour of converting South Stand L1 plus the Kippax & Colin Bell corners AND North Stand L1 when the extension is undertaken.
The family stand could be relocated to NS L2 with NS L3 available for newbies who want to sit.

Everyone's a winner........??

Disagree.

We already have people who want to stand (some already do) and sing, but the problem is they are in pockets dotted around the entire stadium.

If you take 5,000 of those and stick them in 1 stand they will make 100x as much noise as they did on their own, just like when we take a few thousand away fans anywhere.

Lowering the prices will appeal to younger people, and marketing or group rates would help, but the natural process of just making a safe standing stand available will concentrate the people who want to stand and make noise in one small area.

nice try.

So you are in support of safe standing then, despite your first comment saying the exact opposite?

So why say "No" you wouldn't support Safe Standing at The Etihad?

Surely that would help reduce your frustration at such lawlessness.

100% for it as it seems to work very well at Dortmund and Celtic. Re getting groups of friends to stand together, how does that work, as my understanding is that you're still allocated a "seat"? Presumably the club would take requests initially to try and get people together? Good to see that the club is receptive to the idea.

I heard a Hannover fan on Radio 5 yesterday and he said that at his club they weren't allocated a seat but just a block - so that as long as you were in the same block you could stand with your pals.

Making the SS safe standing won't change the atmospere. A large section of fans who already stand there don't sing. They won't sing in a new safe standing section either.

What's needed is the NS to be expanded, and for the botton tier of the new NS to be made into safe standing. Then fans who want to stand and *sing* will be grouped together. A fresh start.

Obviously that leaves the issue of relocating the family stand to another part of the stadum. I'm not for one minute implying this will happen. It's just a suggestion.

But unless City make some difficult decisions about improving the atmosphere, that will upset a section of our fan base, the atmosphere at the Etihad will never change.(bar the big games)

I think standing with your mates is far more likely to encourage people to sing. It certainly works when groups of mates go to away games.

The delay with this is due to the higher ups, government etc. being shit scared to make the decision. Who is going to put his neck on the line knowing that at the first hint of any problems, or worse some piss head seriously hurting himself through his own fault, the world and his dog will descend upon the decision makers and tear them a new arsehole. Aint gonna happen any time soon.

The standing needs to be near the away fans, to help generate a decent atmosphere. The atmosphere at City is generated largely by being next to the away fans. It was the same in the old Kippax when the away fans had the corner and Platt Lane and then in the new Kippax when the away fans went in the North Stand, that end of the Kippax and the North Stand, with the away fans in between generated the atmosphere.

If it was up to me, the 3rd tier of the South Stand would be for standing, so the noise can echo off the roof and down onto the pitch. When we played Everton in the league cup semi final last season and they had the top tier, the noise that came from the South Stand was mega and reminded me of the olden days. I was sat in the North Stand and it sounded very loud.
The same with the old Kippax, the noise used to be amazing because of the roof. When we did the Allianz Arena tour in the summer, they also said the roof was designed to reflect the noise.

Unfortunately you have it the nail on the head.

But don't people already stand near the away fans? I'm not exactly sure what difference this would make. Unless they do it on an unallocated seat basis, which I cant see happening because it would make it harder to trace people sat in the seats if there were trouble.

SS3 is too steep for safe standing for me.

Personally im not fussed either way as people already stand and the atmosphere isn't great so not really convinced anything would change.

All too true, however west hams move has shown standing and football violence are not linked, all seater never was hust about all safer, it was also another ideological attack on a certain element of society by the then government

Yes. When it comes to being fleeced we're customers, when it's anything else we're supporters who are expected to shut up and do as we're told. People in every ground in Britain make their choice by standing and have done every week since the all seater stadia became the norm. Time for a bit of genuine customer choice.

Imo they should do the opposite & create a City end.

If that means our fans can't create an atmosphere then we don't deserve a standing area.

People with no attention span incapable of mustering a song without away fans doing it for them, can still sit next to fat geordies if they feel the need.

This is the one chance we get.

There will be no away fans near the rags' end if they get approval.
