Micah was a great player for a while, but tactically astute he wasn't. And I seem to remember Clichy also not knowing what to do in a back 3. We'll never know if Mancini just didn't teach it well enough or if we didn't have the personnel to pull it off in those days. I'd guess the latter.

Micah was out with the rib injury from the Olympics when we were experimenting with it and then on his return he shredded his knee. In fact, he missed pretty much the entire season and the entire experiment with 3 at the back.
