David Silva - 2016/17 performances

Didn't have a good 2015/16 season (admittedly suffered from niggling injuries) but that form has carried over to this campaign. Pathetic attempt to block King's goal. Is it true he has no goals and only 2 assists this season? Silva gets a free run from many on here based on his performances from 2/3/4 years ago. I also think he is holding back Gundogan and KDB from having more influence, we should give him a wee rest this week and see how the others get on without him....doesn't seem to pick those little passes anymore, the ones that set someone in on goal?

Another player having to adapt to Guardiola's methods but must of had some impression as Silva is one of our vice captains in Vinny's absence.

He's playing better for Spain than us at the moment so maybe it's something we/Pep are doing wrong.

I was going to post that he was the one largely responsible for that second goal but I get called out for criticising him so thought I'd keep quiet. Glad someone else noticed.

For that second goal he was standing around in the area in the middle of two players and made no real attempt to close either down. I've been getting pelters off some for saying he's a luxury we can't afford anymore so it's interesting to see how others are also coming round to that view. He certainly wasn't the worst on Saturday but that was a game where he could and should have shown leadership going forward and didn't. Any teams like Leicester & Boro, who play a packed defence, are not teams he should be starting against.

Admittedly I did think with his injury record he wouldn't of been considered being an influential player under Guardiola. I am not writing him off just yet.

I thought he started the season well but he lacks mobility and it becomes hugely detrimental to our pressing shape.

A few have been saying it for a while is all and labelled clueless...... He simply isn't capable when those around him need his experience to pick them up, he's flawed in that regard... A great player but not for a few years for me. I said at the start of the season this will be his last, nothing has changed!!

Just how the consensus shifts.....

Sorry mate, indeed.

Increasingly a peripheral figure for us and whilst he isnt alone in that of late, its a real worry seeing a key player for Spain not able to transfer that international form to us.

What doesn't help is shoehorning Gundogan, Silva and Kevin into the same side either as its unbalanced, its indulgent and it doesn't work.

I said last year and I've seen nothing to change my mind and that is Kevin is Davids successor.

Completely agree. I got pelters on here for saying last season that Silva was finished at the top, top level. I think he's mentally weak and hides when the going gets tough.

Guardiola's journo friend said that Pep thinks Silva is the leader of the team on the pitch, so whether you're right or not, it seems Guardiola disagrees - or at least disagreed when he wrote the second book.

He's being held back (KDB) with the confusion around the system, that is a consequence of Pep but undoubtedly down to silva.... He'll have a few more great games before he departs, people will elevate his resurgence and we will, again, be called clueless...

Isn't that what are here for?? Opinions..... I'd also say that he knows a great deal more than you or I, that isn't even up for debate, however, see the bravo thread for clarity, I'm firmly in the Bravo camp by the way!!

I have learned my lesson (belatedly) with calling people clueless Zin. As for Silva, Guardiola hasn't thrown him under a bus just yet.
