City v Watford post match

Can't understand the volley of negativity regarding Nolito. He carries a goal threat, granted he doesn't have the poachers instincts of an Agüero but he sure as he'll isn't afraid to put a shift in. Puts defenders under pressure constantly. A front 3 of Sane Nolito and Sterling at some point would certainly pique my interest. Out of interest I would be interested to see our points return this season when he plays against when he doesn't. I rather fancy we play better with him in the team.

Had Boro - Dippers on at the same time and although Boro were shit, it struck me that Dippers always have a passing option in the middle
behind the strikers, something that we seem to miss. Silva was always there before, but now I don't really know what the plan is.

Their strikers on the wings, Mane for example, are also closer to the box, whereas Sterling/Navas always seem to get them close to the
sidelines. This also let the Dipper fullbacks come on the outside which create immense pressure. We seemed to do this ourselves so
successfully, the first season under Pellegrini, don't really know what has happened.

However, I'm happy with the clean sheet and if we sort our defense out, we'll gonna keep on grabbing points. This season shouldn't only
be about playing the way Pep wants it imo, it should be about doing the best with the personnel available.

The result was more important than the performance noticed the defence and Bravo were not messing around and hit it long when needed , thought Watford would have been more of a threat but credit to the team for limiting them to just a few shots. Their manager stated they could have had a draw if Inghalo had took his chance like some posters on here , which is bollocks because we could have had 4 or 5 goals if we had taken all our chances , very rarely a team will go through 90 minutes without conceding a decent chance , its down to the opposition to take them , for once we got the rub of the green. We deserved the win but not at our fluent best Merlin & KDB misplacing passes and making the wrong choices contributed to an underwhelming performance , just hope they improve for Sunday because the goons will be more of a threat with Sanchez

And why do you think Watford never threatened? even though they missed a sitter to get level

They did indeed. Happier with 4 at the back, but there were still gaps that Arsenal will try get at, whereas Watford couldn't get the ball off us for the most part. Yes, that means we kept it well, but we didn't doo too much with it in honesty until the final 30 mins.

Had to watch the game on stream so you dont always get the best view. What I saw was an ok performance with not too much inspiration but three very weicome points. Whilst watching when Gundogan got injured I thought about this seasons signings:
Bravo - enough has been said on this one I think
Stones - Jury out but I think he will be good when we have decent support
Gundogan - Unlucky but has always been injury prone. How many games will he play
Nolito - good squad player
Sane - Dont know. Never plays!
Jesus - Lets hope.
All in all for the money spent not that impressive so far. Am I being too harsh?

after the first ten games the signings were a managerial master stroke ,after the next ten games they are'nt very good .The truth is somewhere in between most new signings take time to settle in , especially the younger players like Sane and Stones maybe we should leave the instant judgement to our media friends and consider how good the likes Sane,Stones and Jesus are going to be next year under Pep

Positives:

Touré had his best game for, literally, years.
Silva's already one goal off his tally for all of last season. If he can score seven or eight a season then he'll be even more important to us.
Fernando looked solid when he came on.
Zabaleta scored. When is that not a positive?
Clean sheet (!) and whatever some say about Watford not threatening there was some good defending/goalkeeping on show.
We showed we're not incapable of winning without Fernandinho and Aguero.
Kolarov, Bravo and Otamendi didn't make any mistakes and generally looked more like the players we know they can be.

Negatives:

Gundogan injured.
We didn't win 10-0. Pep out.

I think that's a bit harsh considering we spent £14,000,000 on a player who looks likely to get 10 or 12 goals assuming he doesn't get injured. In my opinion he's been one of our best value signings since the takeover.

I agree with the rest. Stones needs a calm influence next to him.

Watford played like a rugby league side tonight and again no protection from the ref.
Funnily enough I said during the game that they look more like a rugby league side than a football team. Some big, beefy lads in there. They had no ambition other than to kick our players if they attempted to go past, aided by a referee who refused to get his cards out of his pocket. How the Watford defender who clattered Sterling twice in the second half escaped a booking, let alone two, amazed us. I know refs give cards for cumulative fouls to individual players but he should have given cards for team cumulative fouls last night.

Overall a competent if uninspiring performance. Kolarov is much better at centre-back, where he has no licence to roam upfield. Yaya looked the best of the bunch, Otamendi looked solid and asn't being a dickhead, we showed more bite in the tackle and the pressing was much better. That's the side that I think should have started at Leicester. Also he got the subs right, bringing on Navas to help Zab, who was getting a bit of a chasing from that Success lad. I was thinking about whether he should bring on Iheanacho for maybe Silva or De Bruyne when we were only 1 up as we weren't really getting on the end of balls into the box but it worked out in the end. So all-in-all happy with the 3 points and clean sheet but Sunday will be a sterner test.

Could have been 1-1? Fuck off. It could have finished 0-2. It could have finished 8-6 but it didn't. We absolutely dominated Watford and managed to kill them off; something we've been really struggling with recently.

We'll have tougher tests and we'll have to put in better performances but the three points were fully deserved and thankfully we don't play Atletico Madrid every week.

But, because we weren't 2011 Barcelona and didn't score six goals, it was a Pellegrini performance?

People were moaning from minute one and looking for an excuse to have a hissy fit. One guy was screaming to take Clichy off after fifteen minutes and another knobhead seemed determined to tell everyone that all Watford had to do was get their free kick on target because Bravo is shite. Detestable fucking vultures who love it when things fuck up because the most excitement they get from watching football is the moment when they get to say "I told you so".

Absolute fucking embarrassment to be sat in the stands with wankers like that but stupidity rarely whispers.
Well said.

What is there not to be happy about (Asside from the Gundogan injury)?

worse bit about last night (apart from the Gundogan injury)was the ironic cheers when Bravo saved a tame shot early on. makes me wonder why some people say they support City when they are happier moaning.

A win is a win and the clean sheet was a bonus, but frankly Watford were abysmal.

The opposition only made an effort to get at us late in the second half and then our defensive frailties started to appear.

The players gave their all but the team does not look balanced to me, I wish we had a tall target man to utilise our speed on the flanks - there is a lack of height in the side.

Lost in all of the things happening yesterday, I thought the referee Kevin Friend did a magnificent job. Not partial to either side and made the right call most of the time.

Friend let the Watford players kick our lads all over the pitch.
Agree there were no controversial decisions for him to make but he could and should have booked quite a few of their players.
Happy enough with 3 points and a clean sheet but gutted about Gundogans injury.

Nolitos contribution is huge, only the numpties dont get it.
Excellent work rate - ( Tevez levels)
Movement excellent.
Goal threat.
interplay is unrivaled by any of our left sides players, He brings that whole flank to life single handedly, in essence we only attack from one flank if he doesnt play , If Navas plays on the other flank
we are well and truly.

Look at the stats as to when he plays vs when he doesnt.

Nolito is life

I swear before the game everyone was begging for a professional 1-0 win 'like Chelsea are getting', well, we went one better than that. Why complain?
