Hull (a) Post Match Thread

Made it look hard work, against the worse team in the prem but once that first goal went in, we took control. 3 points and clean sheet! I'll take it! :) Happy Christmas all....

It's a strange one.

Imo we are doing the hardest part. We work hard, get on the ball, we force tho oppo back into their own goalmouth, then just fuck about. Just step in & shoot ffs. Just attempting it will open things up.

It seems there is a fear of failure. When we score 1, we seem to settle down and up our game.

Stopping counter attacks means quicker thinking in defence, so we concede a lot of fouls on the halfway line to break up the play.

That and we do give a few silly ones away (Sterling late on for example).
Yeh suppose so. I said in the match thread why do we make so many fouls. I suppose it's being coached into them to be a bit more ruthless and so so bloody nice and pally with the opp. It obviously is starting to work

Pep: "It's important for us to get three victories in a row... It's not enough because the other teams are strong as well."

Pep: "Now we're going to rest and prepare for Anfield."

Pep [on John Stones]: "It's just a kick..."

Don't know what happens to those posters, had we dropped points this thread would already be at 70+ pages but when we win they
don't
have
a
fucking
word
to
say.
The page count does quadruple when we lose or draw. I think it's a British thing lol. We're a bunch of miserable bastards

Great win. Any 3-0 win away from home in the Premier League is a great win.

Delighted for Iheanacho to get a goal, I think he's had a bit of unnecessary flack lately. His performances in 2016 have been great for us; just look at his minutes to goal ratio. Probably the best U21 striker in England.

It looks like Guardiola is beginning to understand the league more and away wins at Hull, Palace, West Brom and Burnley is promising when you consider their style of football. Yaya has made a huge difference too.

Back up to second.

First half shote and a trudge, Second half a lot better.
If we could transform 45 mins in 90 we would walk the league

Wank first half. Then whether through accident or design we invited them on and we looked far more dangerous. Yaya has a superb temperament for penalties. Hope everton doesnt come back to haunt us. Pep needs to see the difference in both halves and act accordingly. We need to invite candlepool on, play them at their own game.
Good post but just for clarication.....are you both in agreement?

Same here. I believe we have the arsenal disease of wanting to walk it in.

I am hoping pep takes it to the next level and starts forcing defensive errors by constantly pumping it into the box where anything could happen. But currently we piss around the area until we lose the ball

Professional performance and 3 points are all that matters are all points that are being posted but for me the lack of energy and urgency worries me most. Hull are very poor and if we had showed more tenacity we would of put them to bed a lot earlier. As well as Yaya is playing, I fear for our midfield at Anfield with him in it. Definitely need to up our game next week.

Passed them death, kept it relatively tight and when tired killed them off. How many passes for that third goal. They didn't touch it for two mins

Lots of shots in the final third and be first to any rebounds, Pep actually talks about this in depth in the Pep: Confidential book.

It's a very effective tactic against a team sitting in with a low block.

wtf are you talking about..takes it to the next level, that's 1980s football, if that's the football you want I suggest you watch the Watford v palace game, there is no way that is going to happen until pep leaves, maybe you would prefer big fat Sam as the manager. ?

There were too many folk on the Matchday thread eager to stick the boot in and say how shit we were, but they are completely wrong. I've seen us play shit, and that was nothing like it. We managed the game well today without giving them too many chances. We softened them up until they had nothing left and comfortably beat them with a clean sheet to boot.

That's some pretty hardcore spin. Yeh, we weren't shit in the beaten-at-home-by-Bury sense of the word, but for 70 minutes we were pretty fucking poor considering the talent at our disposal. Slow, endless recycling of the ball backwards, and creating next to nothing going forward, and the usual difficulty dealing with corners/crosses and long high punts downfield. 2nd half was better in terms of the additional space we created by drawing them on to us, but until the penalty I couldn't see us scoring any more than I could them
